Indiana Farmer's Market Nutrition Program Partners with the Area 9 Meals Program

The Indiana Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program is partnering with Area 9 In-Home and Community Services Agency’s Meals Program to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to area seniors.  The Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program provides fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits and vegetables to seniors who meet eligibility criteria while expanding the awareness and use of local Farmers’ Markets and farm stands.

To meet eligibility criteria, participants must be age 60 and over with income that is 185% of the poverty level.  That means for a household with one person, the monthly income cannot exceed $1,603 or $2,158 if there are two persons in the household.

Eligible participants will receive checks totaling $18.00 that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the Farmers’ Market located at the Old Co-op Mill lot on U.S. 52 in Brookville.  Hours of operation are Fridays from 3:30pm to 8:30pm now through October 18, 2008.

Checks will be available at the Brookville Senior Center, 11146 County Park Road, on a first come, first served basis on Monday, July 14th, beginning at 9:00am until 10:00am and at Fairbrook Manor, 1301 Fairfield Avenue, from 10:30am to 12:00noon or until all checks have been distributed.

If you have any questions, or for more information, contact Beth Evans, Meals Program Director, at 765-966-1795 or 1-800-458-9345.
