As part of School Public and Environmental Affairs of Indiana University, the Criminal Justice Department offers the degrees of Associate of Science in Criminal Justice and Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. If you have a specific interests in law enforcement, correctional administration, probation, or parole, you may be interested in these degree programs.
Associate of Science in Criminal Justice
This degree program provides a general understanding of the American criminal justice system for entry-level positions in the public sector for corrections, human services, and law. It also provides a concrete foundation for going on to a bachelor’s degree.
Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice
Within the framework of a liberal arts education, this program provides you with a broad-based, sophisticated understanding of the role the criminal justice system plays in American society and prepares you to assume positions in public and private agencies concerned with crime and its prevention. You will acquire the knowledge, values, and skills that will enable you to rationally analyze the problems of the criminal justice system and the needs of society in a manner in keeping with democratic traditions of law, social well-being, and individual rights. As a graduate, you are well equipped to provide input on policies & programs and to assume productive roles in the criminal justice system and other public and private organizations.
Indiana Law Enforcement Academy
Special credit may be granted to you if your are completing the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy upon presentation of evidence of graduation with an average of 77% or higher. It is possible to receive credit for J320 (Criminal Investigations); J401 (Criminal Law and Procedure); and J380 (Criminal Justice Internship). If eligible, you should contact the Admissions Office and the resident faculty of the Criminal Justice program. Those applying after December 31, 1996 must exercise this option within one year after graduating from the Law Enforcement Academy.
