Degree Programs  

The Fine Arts department offers the following degree programs

Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts

General Requirements
  1. You must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours, of which 100 must be in arts and sciences.
  2. You must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (C) on 4.0 scale. A course taken to fulfill requirements of the major must be completed with a grade of C or better, and the GPA for all courses in the major must be C (2.0) or better.
  3. A minimum of 36 credit hours must be in courses at the 300 and 400 levels.
  4. You must complete a minimum of 24 credits at Indiana University East, and at east 15 credits in the major must be completed at Indiana University East.

Other Degree Requirements

Courses applied to general education or distribution may not be counted toward the concentration. Courses counted toward the concentration must be taken for a letter grade. At least 36 hours of the curriculum must be at the 300 level or higher, including 18 hours in the concentration, which must be at the 300 level or higher.

Fine Arts Degree Concentration (min.of 44 credits)

The area of concentration must include a minimum of 44 credit hours wiht at least 18 credit hours at the 300 level or higher.

Art History/Art Appreciation (12 cr.)
No more than 9 hours at the 100 level.  A maximum of 3 hours can be taken in art appreciation.
Fundamental Studio (9 cr.)
Courses at the 100 level or higher.
 
Studio Courses (21 cr.)
All courses must be at the 200 level or higher, with a maximum of 6 credit hours at the 200 level.
 
Capstone Experience (2 cr.)
The purpose of the capstone experience is to provide students with opportunities to demonstrate that they have mastered a depth of knowledge in the major, that they can integrate knowledge within their creative endeavors, and that they are able to communicate coherently.

The Capstone Experience will include a personal exhibit that will include terminal and representative work in the major field and in the minor field, if applicable.  The student must prepare the exhibit under the principal teacher's  guidance and include a descriptive statement about the exhibit: goals, techniques, process, approach, etc.  Ordinarily, the capstone experience will be completed during the final semester of the senior year.
