Did you know that the Library has a subscription to a database called Press Display.  This resource allows you to view current newspapers from around the world.  Not only can you do this but you can read or listen to the text in English or other languages.  Daily you can check the news around the World by going to this source.  Think of all of the ways you could use this.

Library language can sometimes be inhibitive for library newcomers.  The following definitions may be of help to you.

    Boolean Operator or Boolean Logic
Boolean operators, otherwise known as logical operators, are used to construct complex searches in a database. They help make a search more accurate. There are 3 logical operators: AND, OR and NOT.

    Online Catalog
An electronic or digitized version of a library’s card catalog.  Indiana University Libraries’ online catalog is called IUCAT. It is the database that contains records that refer to the many materials held by Indiana University Libraries.

    Full text database
A full text database is a resource that provides access to the complete text of an item. In a full text periodical resource, both the bibliographic descriptions and the articles themselves will be available. An example of this type of resource is Academic Search Premier.

This Fall the IU East Campus Library Website had a makeover and for many of you this meant that the old familiar links that you used for research have been relocated or renamed.  Please be assured that all of the online services that  you depend on are still there even if the layout is different.  Some additions/changes to the site that you may want to note are the Off Campus Access link is no longer needed because you can now simply click on the database by subject or A-Z page.  You will then be prompted to enter your username and pass-phraseAlso,  there is now a library blog that you can read to keep in tune with all of library news, databases and general information.  Please feel free to contribute your feedback.Electronic Reserves are also now available from the menu on the left of the homepage.   This will allow you to access any online course reserves you may have.  This could include book chapters or article that a faculty has provided to the library.  You will be able to access these files with a password provided to you by the faculty  member.Overall, the library website has changed but we still offer the same great service.
