Student Outcomes
A graduate of the ASN program is expected to be:
- Critical thinker who is able to evaluate ideas of self and others and to apply reason in problem solving.
- Effective communicator who is able to listen actively and respond appropriately to the message transmitted.
- Culturally competent person who recognizes and respects differences within and between groups of people.
- Competent provider of nursing care consistent with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act and Professional Standards set by the American Nurses' Association.
- Conscientious practitioner who practices within the legal and ethical parameters of professional nursing.
- Accountable / responsible manager of care who functions in health care settings where policies and procedures are specified and professional consultation is available.
Purpose
**Admission to the ASN Program has been suspended as of Fall 2006.
The purpose of the ASN program is to educate graduates who will completely fill entry-level staff nursing positions. The program is designed to meet the learning needs of students who are pursuing an initial career in nursing as well as students who wish to change their career goals. Graduates of the Associate Degree program are prepared to provide nursing care to individuals in a diverse range of health care settings.
