1. Help Desk Consultants
Help Desk consultants provide technical assistance over the phone to IUE faculty, students and staff. They also serve as the backup for Welcome Center consultants. Help desk consultants are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. The available hours are Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm.
Duties:
- Respond to questions in a thorough, careful, efficient manner, using proper spelling and grammar and a kind, helpful tone.
- Refer all unresolved problems to an appropriate specialist.
- Develop and maintain awareness of the IT organizational and technical environment, including hardware, software, publications, and user concerns.
- Document all incoming requests into Falcon Enterprise Management Systems, maintain correct, detail, and up to date information.
- Participate in required training and meetings. Continuously develop technical, organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills.
- Serve as the backup for Welcome Center consultants.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills, along with the ability to interact courteously with the entire university community at all levels of technical and organizational sophistication
- Demonstrated problem-solving and diagnostic ability
- Familiarity with a variety of software applications in common use at IU East
- Motivation and confidence to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Compensation
Help desk consultants are paid $7.25 per hour. Indiana University part-time hourly employees are paid on an hourly, bi-weekly basis, with no remission of academic fees and no commitment to continuous employment.
2. Welcome Center Consultants
The Welcome Center consultants serve as the switchboard operators, event coordinators, and receptionists for the campus and visitors. Welcome Center consultants are required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. The Welcome Center hours are Monday - Thursday 8 am - 9 pm, Friday 8 am - 5 pm, and Saturday 8am - 12pm.
Duties:
- Operate campus telephone switchboard. Answer and transfer all incoming calls.
- Maintain an up-to-date campus telephone and office directory.
- Adhere to professional dress code at all time.
- Greet, direct, and assist campus visitors. Respond to questions in a thorough, careful, efficient manner, using proper spelling and grammar and a kind, helpful tone.
- Develop and maintain awareness of the campus organizational and functional environment.
- Be the central warehouse for campus events. Coordinate with marketing, facility, campus police, and information technology to provide the necessary space and support for the event. Maintain correct, detail, and up to date event calendar.
- Participate in required training and meetings. Continuously develop technical, organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills.
Qualifications:

3. Computing Lab Consultants
Lab consultants provide direct support to customers of the computing labs located throughout the campus. They answer questions relating to software applications, resolve printer problems, and maintain the lab environment. Consultants are to provide technical assistance, demonstrate exemplary interpersonal communication skills, be professional at all times, and support and comply with all IU East policies and procedures. All computer labs are open Monday - Thursday 8 am - 9 pm and Friday 8 am - 5 pm. The Hayes labs are open Saturday 8 am - 4 pm and Sunday 12 pm - 4 pm.
Duties
- Specific responsibilities include answering customer questions, reporting software and hardware problems, enforcing policies, and assisting faculty and staff with projects.
- In addition, all consultants are required to read their electronic mail which pertains to student consulting services a minimum of once every 48 hours and be familiar with any information received in the weekly newsletter.
- In support of these responsibilities, consultants will learn and implement all procedures at the sites, and will develop and maintain both a specified level of expertise in applications and a proactive ownership of customer support issues.
Qualifications:

- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Familiar with Windows operating environment and common software applications such as Office, Outlook, and Internet Explorer.
- Ability to work a minimum of 12 hours per week
Consultant Shifts
Consultants are assigned shifts at the beginning of the semester and retain these shifts for the entire semester.
Compensation
Lab consultants are paid $6.00 per hour. Indiana University part-time hourly employees are paid on an hourly, bi-weekly basis, with no remission of academic fees and no commitment to continuous employment.
