When Wayne Corporation went out of business in 1992, David Hogg’s 20-year career as a factory worker ended. David—45 years old and from a family with no college graduates— enrolled in IU East. His first course was political science with professor Paul Kriese. After failing the first test, David considered to drop out, but Kriese convinced him to stay. David eventually went on to earn two degrees from IU East and a master of divinity degree from the Earlham School of Religion. Now, as Campus Ministry Associate for Diversity and Religious Leadership at Earlham College, David encourages students to pursue their passions, like he did in 1992. “People have to believe in themselves, to dare to dream,” he says.

More than 4,400 people are proud to trace their academic roots to IU East. They are joined by an equally active group of friends, parents, corporations, and foundations whose participation, support, and interest further higher education in East Central Indiana. We invite you to explore how you can become more involved in the IU East community.
