211 Call Center
Callers can dial 2-1-1 for information and referral for a wide variety of health and human service agencies and volunteer opportunities. Some of the information and referrals are to food pantries, emergency shelters, affordable child care, medical and health assistance, employment assistance, transportation, rent/mortgage & utility payment assistance, help during times of disasters and other services. There is no cost to call 2-1-1 and the service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We have the capacity to interpret over 170 worldwide languages. There is no cost to dial 2-1-1. Our trained counselors can assist in helping to find the right information to fit your needs.
We are one of 16 regional 2-1-1 call centers in East Central Indiana serving Fayette, Franklin, Rush, Union and Wayne Counties and are among hundred’s nationwide. Area 9’s data base has grown to over 1000 community service programs since its inception in 2009. We have seen a 20% increase each year in the number of callers using the 2-1-1 call center.
In May 2011 Area 9’s 211 Call Center was awarded the AIRS National Accreditation. We successfully completed both the consultation and on-site assessment phases of the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) Accreditation and is effective until 2016. The accreditation team from AIRS cited our program for having a “Best Practice” which was shared nationally.
In the fiscal year 2010-2011 over 10,700 individuals received assistance. Some of the information and referrals that were provided during that year were: 643 callers obtained information on food, 533 callers for health care, 626 for utility assistance programs, 238 families referred to local housing organizations, 167 calls to help with their job search and 89 families were referred to homeless or domestic violence shelters.
