IU East defends their home court

Richmond, Ind. – Indiana University East men’s basketball (7-3) resumed their home schedule tonight against Ohio Christian University (0-6). The Red Wolves came out a little flat the first half, but turned it around the second half to defeat the Trailblazers 93-76.

The Red Wolves could not break open enough offense to gain an early lead in the first half, but to Ohio Christians credit they played quality pressure defense and knocked down some big shots. The Trailblazers traded baskets with IU East and held their own as the half wore on, holding the Red Wolves’ lead to four at the break.

In the second half IU East came out with a different attitude and aggressiveness offensively. The Red Wolves started looking for Tyler Rigby more in the offense, which led to open looks for Cory Sitton and opportunities in the paint. Both teams at times were sloppy with the ball, but as the game continued IU East secured their offense and got a few key stops defensively.

IU East controlled the boards, registering 11 more than their counterpart. IU East also shot 38.9 percent from three point range, while holding Ohio Christian to 16.7 percent from behind the arc.

The Red Wolves were led offensively by Cory Sitton (Shelbyville, Ind. / Shelbyville) who scores 24 points in 23 minutes of play. “I’ve been feeling more confident lately with my shot and the basket looked wide open tonight” said Cory Sitton.

Tyler Rigby (Bryant, Ind. / Jay County) added 15 points and Will Madison (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers) contributed 17 points, six rebounds and one block.

Brent Burris (Indianapolis, Ind.) played a solid game with 13 points on four for seven from the field, five rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Coach Mark Hester said “It was a learning experience tonight. We got a good run late, but it should have never come down to that.”

The Red Wolves are back in action November 25 at IPFW to face another NCAA Division I summit league opponent.
