Bathroom Etiquette

Yes I know I'm immature but really this subject has been on my mind for a while. So let me paint you the picture.
I have to go to the bathroom really bad. I walk in and there is a professor going to the bathroom as well. So I go to use the bathroom and while I am standing there I realize that I have to flatulate. I don't think this is a word but I talked to my mom about this and she said I can't use the word fart on this blog because it doesn't sound professional. So I had to flatulate.
Anyway I'm standing there and I just can't bring myself to fart in front of him in the bathroom. At the moment I didn't totally understand why I could not fart in front of him in the bathroom.
Normally I can fart, excuse me pass an air biscuit, in front of anyone and it would not bother me. I fart in front of my family. I can let one go in front of my girlfriend. I pass gas in class with classmates and professors/teachers standing right there. It just does not bother me. I fully invite anyone to comment on this part and back me up. I'm sure if you know me you've heard one fly.
For some reason though I could not let on fly in the bathroom. It seems like that would be the place for it. Now grant it there are some occasions when I will hold back outside of the bathroom. If, for instance, I find myself in an important situation I will restrain my self but there are few situations that call for such actions.
So I want to ask everyone reading this to comment. Could you fart in a bathroom with someone in there with you? It just seems awkward. I asked a few people this and one response I found funny was even if there was just a person in the stall next to you and they would never know who you were they could not fart. I think I could fart then. The other question is can you fart freely in front of others outside of the bathroom? Which do you find more awkward?
