So again, this isn’t the “special” blog I promised some weeks ago but I’m working on it!! And I know you’ll love it! Instead I am just going to type about anything that comes to my mind, like we’re actually conversing, so don't mind the scattered thoughts. Just sit back and enjoy. HA! I’m in the midst of my Greek religion essay and I’m focusing on the chthonic deities (gods of the earth), how they differed from the Olympians, who the main chthonic gods were and how their character as proven through myths caused any tension within the divine order. Phew! It’s actually very interesting once you get into it, but it requires a lot of background reading. Speaking of my Greek class, I had a meeting with my professor a couple of weeks ago to discuss my presentation grade (which I got an A+ on?!?). She told me how impressed she was with me, that I was doing very well in the class and that although in this course, which is for 2nd years and background knowledge is assumed, I am still doing extremely well! Do you remember my depressing blog a while ago? The one where I was talking about this Greek class and how I felt so stupid? Well Elle Woods has proven herself, folks! ;) Haha. But school is going well! I got an A on my first history essay as well, thank you Lord! I had to discuss my grade with my German professor (the one I don’t really fancy) and again wanted to exit the room with a Kristen Wiig Bridesmaids line, “Auf Wiedersehen…” You know the rest, or at least you should. Bridesmaids is one of the best movies ever created and I obnoxiously quote it all the time. Really. Speaking of movies, this past Friday I went and saw Breaking Dawn with my friend Christina. We had never been to the theater and it was really cute. I got a Breaking Dawn tote! Twihard, say what?! The concession/ticket part where you get your popcorn and drinks and candy was SO small. Everything here is definitely smaller i.e. the streets, cars, food portions, shops, supermarkets. You had your choice of sweet or salty popcorn (weird, huh?). Then my friend and I got a bunch of candy in a bag that you had to weigh then pay for accordingly. The actual theater with the screen was big and the seats were cheetah print! As for the movie, Jacob and Edward were as tasty as always. The acting was awful as always and the birthing scene was ridiculous! Let me just say, if a vampire had to eat/bite a child out of my stomach I would expect as soon as the bambino came out that someone would be there for me, not stare at the vampire child and ooh and ah while I’m lying, presumably with a rock solid placenta hanging out of me on a table in the middle of a vampire mansion. Hello? Anyway, today I went to town and it’s all decorated for Christmas with little shops set up in the middle of the square selling stockings and little gifts for friends and family and they have new food carts that I know my dad would LOVE! They were grilling sausages that smelled so delicious! I had to get some groceries and the outfit for my dance competition on the 3rd of December. I’m having so much fun on the dance team! I’m on the hip hop competition team and the choreographers and dancers are all amazing! I think they’ll video tape our first competition so hopefully I can post it for you all to see! I hear that it’s freezing back home! And that it has already snowed?! The coldest it’s been here is 52 degrees Fahrenheit. I am also jealous that you all are on Thanksgiving break now! It will be so weird for me to go to class on Thanksgiving! It’ll be the first time in my life that I won’t have Thanksgiving off! My friends and I are making a huge Thanksgiving feast on Saturday though, so hopefully that will make me feel better! I am making the sweet potatoes but England doesn’t have marshmallows?! I know it’s crazy! I did find a Paula Deen recipe for sweet potato casserole that doesn’t involve any marshmallows, so I think I’ll use that one. Oh! And you guys just had homecoming! How was that?! I voted for the king and queen! I felt involved! Haha. How was the bonfire and the nearly naked mile? I hope you all went to the events because they are so fun! I can’t wait t to be back next year and go to all of the events! One of the things about Kent (the college I’m at now) is that students are so involved! It’s really awesome to see so many people at all of the events we have here on campus. Something here that I definitely will miss is the on-campus grocery store! Ha! It’s so cute and it has a Costa coffee machine that gets decorated for Christmas and it makes the best coffee drinks for under 2 pounds! We also have bars and clubs on campus that take less than 10 minutes to walk to. There’s a club on campus called The Venue and it has themed nights. They have high school discos (discos are what school dances are called here, and everyone up until college has to wear a school uniform) so we all dress up in uniforms and go out and have a blast. This coming Saturday it’s a 1980’s arcade theme where you dress up in your 80’s gear and get to play some of the old arcade games like Pac Man (they’re bringing in the old games). Then it’s a snow night, or ice night or something like that where they decorate the club like a winter wonderland. They really go all out here! The club is really for Kent students so they try and bring everyone out. There’s also a club in town called Chill that has an “Alphabeats” night every Wednesday where a certain letter dictates the theme of the night. Like this Wednesday it’s “P” and so it’s a Pyjama (that’s how they spell it here!) Party and you get PB&J’s for free all night long and people whose name starts with a “P” get free admission into the club! And right now I’m honestly running out of things to talk about so I think I’ll leave you with that! Enjoy your break! ‘Til next time-
