I Wish That I Could Have This Moment for Life

SUPERBOWL

Was this not THE best SUPERBOWL Half-Time show, EVER?!? DREAM TEAM!

Let me just start off by saying that this is the first SUPERBOWL Sunday I am not in my house hearing my father yell at his big screen…kind of weird.  The cool thing is, Woody’s, the pub in Parkwood (the sort of neighborhood I live in) is having a Superbowl Sunday and serving the “American favorites” so they say, of hotdogs and nachos. Since I’m five hours ahead of you guys back home, I would have to stay up till 4am to watch the game, and sorry, but watching Tom Brady hopefully lose is not worth the nachos and late night. I’ll just catch the half-time show on YouTube. J Now, the nitty gritty.

So you know those annoying Facebook posts about how perfect people’s lives are and how their boyfriends are the best and they’re enjoying their nonfat latte from Starbucks that they ended up getting for free because the barista thought they were the most gorgeous person on the planet? And all of those clichéd sayings about how college is the best time of your life? Well hang in there because, right now, my life is perfect and last night was one of those nights in college that I will never forget.

Yesterday started off by taking a train to Medway’s University of Kent campus, a satellite campus of Kent, just like IUE is of IU, to stand in line to be an extra in the new major motion picture adaption of the musical Les Miserables. I went with my housemates Lauren and Lizzie, and our neighbors Ryan and Sebastian. After arriving in Medway, Lauren became our tour guide and proceeded to take us to the wrong place for the auditions and we ended up in a waste land dock yard where no one was, but Sherlock Holmes was filmed there, so Lauren raised our morale by saying, “You’ve breathed the same air as Jude Law!” Aimlessly wandering in that deserted dock yard was hilarious and most of us were crying because we were laughing so hard. We finally got to where we needed to be to audition and what we came upon was insane. The hope and vision we would wait a maximum of 20 minutes, meet Hugh Jackman, (who’s starring in the movie) then proceed to become Hollywood stars was shattered when we saw that the line was MILES long. People in the back of the line said they had been waiting for 2 hours there and still hadn’t moved. Leaving devastated with crushed dreams, we decided to “sight-see” in Medway instead. Why not make a day out of it? We did just take the train 40 minutes to get there. So even though we decided not to wait in that insane line, we did manage to have some fun. Medway is very hard to describe. I don’t want to insult anyone, but it’s not the nicest borough to go to. We went to a pub for lunch and a ton of older men were watching a football (soccer) game and yelling at the TVs. None of them had teeth or what seemed to be, a proper education. But enough of the insults. The trip was great because I got to hang out with my housemates and neighbors who I feel like I never get to see and I got my first taste of disappointment in the entertainment business because after all, I WILL be a star!

QUEUE

This is just the BACK of the line for the casting!

QUEUE

Another PORTION of the line...

After getting back, I got ready to go out. A big group of us went to Venue, the club on campus I told you guys about in a previous post. The theme for last night was like cameras, or something. There was a photo booth and professional photographers with props set up around the club so you could get your picture taken with your friends and get a “proper Facebook profile picture.” The queue (also known as line. I’m sucha Brit now!) was insane and people were literally pushing and shoving. It was nice that we were all herded like cattle while waiting though because it started to snow and was absolutely freezing. So even though my arm was actually wrapped around a guy I didn’t know, I was warm(er). The club was amazing and my dancing was on point, per usual. My favorite thing to do is get on the balcony and dance like I’m getting paid to do so. The best thing to do is make eye contact with people on the floor then kind of dance with them. I’m like Beyonce giving a concert and I always end up getting the people next to me on the balcony to join in my Madison Square Garden-esque performance. Sheer bliss. When the club closed and we were leaving, it began to snow, HEAVILY. There was about 4 inches on the ground by the time we got back to Denstead and we had a huge snowball fight with everyone! My friends and I were diving into the snow and making snow angels and tackling one another. It was great and such a (jank, I was uber messy and sweaty from the show I put on at Venue) Kodak moment. I came back to bed that night so happy that my decision to study abroad led me to that exact moment. I was so content with life. I love my friends, my house and the nights out we have together. I am in love with England, Kent and the people here and am really dreading this summer when I have to leave all of the friends that have truly become my family. In the great words of the poet of our generation (enter sarcasm, although I am a Barbz), Nicki Minaj, “I wish that I could have this moment for life.” 'Til next time-
