Danielle @ IUE http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle Just another WordPress weblog Fri, 24 Apr 2009 16:52:09 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.8 en hourly 1 Where did April go?!? http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/where-did-april-go-04-24.php http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/where-did-april-go-04-24.php#comments Fri, 24 Apr 2009 16:28:04 +0000 danielle http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/?p=150 Sooo it seems as though I’ve missed something because it seems like just yesterday it was March and we were on Spring Break. A Spring Break, that I might remind you, was full of anything but beaches and sunshine! Luckily though, the two full days of student trustee interviews and two other days spent at the SIFE competition paid off. Otherwise, I’m not sure that my senior SB really would have been anything I would refer to as fair. :)

Back to my lack of April though… I feel like this month has completely been a blur! As far as school goes, I have a ton of huge assignments that are due at the beginning of May  including an 8 page paper on business in a foreign country, a presentation, several final exams and one ceramics project that has recently been neglected and definitely needs some major attention. All of this being said, I’ve been attempting to avoid procrastination but procrastination definitely caught back up to me and will be in full effect until the end of Spring semester. As unfortunate as it may be, you can mark my words on that one. :)

Work has been going well… been busy with Student Government Association elections and trying to find 2009-2010 representatives that will soon be able to officially voice student body opinions. The process to get the ballots filled and up and running has been quite interesting but the voting is now underway so that enables a sigh of relief. Next up on the work agenda is to find a job in this crazy economy when tons of people with lots more experience are running around looking for employment. I’ve got a few years of experience though, so I guess it’ll be time to let that IU degree do all the talking. Only time will tell, so we’ll just have to see how it goes.

The list of things to do continues with taking my Indiana drivers test since we moved over here from Ohio and my license expires on my 21st birthday which happens to be next week. Annnnd I have yet to send out graduation invitations so that’s probably something else that should have already been completed… I guess we all know what I’ll be up to this weekend while everyone else enjoys our 80 degree weather. lol

I can’t end this blog without a quick shoutout to all the juniors who I met these last couple of days during Junior Preview Days. I told them on Wednesday that I’d make an entirely overdue update to my blog on Wednesday night but I ended up getting home from work at 11:45 that night so needless to say it’s happening now. Hope you all enjoyed your visit to campus and that you’ll let me know if you have any other questions!

I’m off to work on some of the things I listed above, but until next time enjoy this great weather and take care!

it’s about that time… http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/its-about-that-time-03-04.php http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/its-about-that-time-03-04.php#comments Wed, 04 Mar 2009 16:13:55 +0000 danielle http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/?p=144 Spring Break is three weeks away and it’s still getting down to ten degrees at night… anyone else see something wrong with this?! :) March seems as though it snuck up on us but I’m most certainly not complaining as I’m ready for the warmer months to be upon us. Speaking of Spring Break, I hear there are some interesting opportunities being offered to students here. The nursing department is taking some students to Chinle, Arizona and as I don’t have many details I did research that Chinle is a small community in the heart of the Navajo Reservation in Apache County. I look forward to hearing the details when they return.

As for my Spring Break I’ll be spending two days with SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) and two days in Indianapolis at IUPUI working on a university-wide committee. We have regional competitions with SIFE on Tuesday in Cincinnati in which we’ll present the projects that were completed throughout the year and then hopefully we’ll earn a chance to go to nationals. It should be a good time and a great chance to meet other students who are involved with their SIFE chapters. The university-wide committee that I’ll be serving on will send ten recommendations to the governor on who will serve as the next Student Trustee of IU. It’ll be a busy week but that’s one thing that I really love about IU East… it’s small enough that you get to be involved with a lot of different organizations on whatever levels you may choose. I don’t think going to a bigger school would have given me the opportunities that I’ve experienced here, and to me it’s those experiences that will benefit me most. To each his own I suppose!

Quickly I just want to congratulate our Men’s Basketball team for their successful season finishing 23-9 and 9-2 within our conference. It was a pleasure to watch them grow and as much as we would have liked to see them beat IU Southeast in the conference championship, there’s always next year. Wish I was going to be around to see that little rivalry flourish. :) Also want to give a quick shoutout to a fellow senior Decoreo Edwards as he finished up his last season with the Red Wolves. It was nice to see the entire team working together this year and I look forward to following them as they progress in the years to come.

I’m off to do some homework but until next time, take care!

abraham lincoln said it best… http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/abraham-lincoln-said-it-best-01-15.php http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/abraham-lincoln-said-it-best-01-15.php#comments Thu, 15 Jan 2009 20:55:26 +0000 danielle http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/?p=132 with the most brilliant observation that “in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count… it’s the life in your years.”

this happens to be the basis of one of my new year’s resolutions and for the last fifteen days that motto seems to have been making things quite interesting. last week my best friend and i decided we would travel to watch the our basketball team play at taylor university fort wayne (like i explained in my last post). soo there was a blizzard watch and then a level 3 snow emergency (according to our athletics article which can be read at http://www.iue.edu/athletics/?p=1996) but we decided to make the trip anyway because i’m probably the most stubborn person you’ll ever meet and i had my heart set on going to support the guys sooo needless to say, we went. we left at 4:15 for the game that started at 7 and to travel 86 miles it took us almost three hours but the most important thing is that we made it there and back AND we won. :) it was a close game because the boys didn’t quite play to their fullest potential but atleast they came out with a victory. congrats on that gentlemen.

btw, campus was B-E-A-UTIFUL yesterday! i took some pictures but they do it no justice whatsoever. below are some of the pictures from the game and a few of campus.

hope that all is well and until next time, take care! always, dns

happy new year! http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/happy-new-year-01-13.php http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/happy-new-year-01-13.php#comments Tue, 13 Jan 2009 19:36:31 +0000 danielle http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/?p=127 i’m twelve days late in wishing you a happy new year but there are still several hundred days left in this year so may you enjoy the rest of them and live them to the fullest. :) it’s been great to have such a long break from classes, we had an extra two weeks compared to most college and universities around here but it seems as though it’s flown by in a blur! it’ll be nice to get back into classes knowing that it’s my last semester of a required classload but i’m sure it will be no walk in the park. annnd ofcourse you know i have to mention textbooks. they say that there are only a few things that you can avoid in life (taxes, death, etc…) but i’m pretty sure if you’re a college student then paying outrageous amounts of money for your textbooks is one of those things too. :)

as for other updates… the basketball team has been doing well so congrats to all of them on how well the season is going so far. it’s been really nice to get to know all of them and i strongly encourage you to make it out to one of the games. they play on thursday at taylor university fort wayne and i think one of my best friends is going to go with me to that… one small set-back… there’s a little something called a nice little blizzard watch that’s in effect for the area so it should be rather interesting! i’m all for a little snowball fight but when you throw the “b” word in there then it changes everything! haha, i’ll let you know how our adventure goes later on this week, but until then, i wish you only the best!

[sigh of relief] http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/sigh-of-relief-12-15.php http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/sigh-of-relief-12-15.php#comments Mon, 15 Dec 2008 15:34:12 +0000 danielle http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/?p=117 soo classes are finally over and now it’s just work and dance until january 20th. what a relief! i was lucky because most of my classes didn’t have comprehensive finals so as everyone else was cramming, i was just doing homework. i wouldn’t say i was completely off the hook considering i did seven hours of homework last sunday and then took monday and tuesday off of work in order to finish the rest; however, i definitely got lucky this time around. so if any of my profs are out there reading then thanks a bunch! :)

this end of this semester seems to have been pretty laid back. we’ve had quite a few basketball games and relaxation day was a really good time. SET gave out stress balls at relaxation day and for some unmentionable reasons we ended up figuring out that a lot of students wanted to play dodgeball at a set time each week. soo… next semester (starting on fri, january 23rd) we will be playing dodgeball at noon. we have around 25 students signed up so it should be a good time, especially if everyone shows up. if you’re free on fridays (or even if it’s just one random friday) then you should definitely stop by.

two weekends ago we played brescia at home and it was our first loss at the tiernan. :( we only lost by two points but we also almost lost two of our best players which was a bit scary. luckily, they both were able to come back and i got a text yesterday claiming that they won down at alice lloyd in kentucky so congrats on that one gents. we play at the conseco fieldhouse (in indy) on wednesday… i hope that everyone gets a chance to make it out to see them play. our dance team is going out in between our game and the pacers game to have a bit of a christmas gathering and exchange gifts. it should be a pretty good time and a chance to relax since all of our finals should be over.

i can’t believe it’s so very close to christmas! this weekend my boyfriend and i stopped by a christmas sweater party that was hosted by some friends across town. there were a TON of people there and it was definitely a very good time. i might also add that it was a great chance to check out some really ugly christmas sweaters. it sparked an idea that i’d appreciate any feedback on… what if we hosted a christmas sweater party here at iue or made a basketball game themed around christmas sweaters? everyone could wear their christmas sweater to the event and then we could give them a t-shirt that was screen printed like an ugly christmas sweater with the year on it somewhere. then we could turn it into a charity event by stating that in order to get in they either have to devote to donating their christmas sweater after the game or they have to pay $5 for admission. all of the clothing and money could go to charities and they’d already have a t-shirt that we gave them to wear after they’ve given up their sweater. if it was a success then the ugly christmas sweater t-shirts could continue through the years and we’d have ourselves a new tradition. what do you think? it might be ludicrous but these are the types of things that i am always trying to brainstorm for SET (our student events team).

well, i’m out of here for now but i hope you enjoy your break and that you get a chance to come out and watch the bball team in indy. until next time, take care!

where did december come from?!? http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/where-did-december-come-from-12-02.php http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/where-did-december-come-from-12-02.php#comments Tue, 02 Dec 2008 16:51:40 +0000 danielle http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/?p=115 soo thanksgiving break was fabulous. i finally got to visit my grandparents up in newark, ohio for the first time since last christmas… soo very long overdue! this is our last week of classes and i have a business plan a.k.a. huge assignment that’s supposed to be done by today. (ehh..) i have yet to start it because of that little issue often referred to as procrastination; however, i’m sure it will be completed with plenty of seconds to spare. apparently, i can only work under pressure but i guess that’ll pay off when i get out into what so irritatingly is called “the real world”.

campus was extremely quiet last week due to the break and it has yet to pick up in the graf yet this week either. snow is falling and it’s the first of the december… i’m a little curious as to where the last few months went? it seems like just yesterday that i was cheering on my boyfriend while we went from one summer softball league tournament to the next. now here it is a few weeks from christmas and five months away from when i’ll walk through my graduation. it’s quite exciting if i might say so myself, but these last months have been quite a blur.

tomorrow is relaxation day so i hope you have a chance to come out and enjoy yourself, even if it’s only for a few minutes in between classes. we (the student events team) got twenty five door prizes to give away that are all valued between 5-25 dollars and there will be candy and pop, movies, popcorn, stress balls and massages among other things. it’s from noon to three so i hope to see you there.

i’m off to get some things for tomorrow but until next time, take care and good luck with final projects & exams!

it’s almost thanksgiving break! http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/its-almost-thanksgiving-break-11-18.php http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/index.php/its-almost-thanksgiving-break-11-18.php#comments Tue, 18 Nov 2008 18:04:08 +0000 danielle http://www.iue.edu/blogs/danielle/?p=110 sorry, i don’t mean to be rejoicing about a break from classes… but… the truth is that i am definitely rejoicing!!! a week without classes and three days without work, it doesn’t get much better than that. we have this week of classes, thanksgiving break and then one more week of classes and a week of exams. sounds pretty sweet if you ask me. :)

congrats to the basketball team who went undefeated this last weekend and won the tourney down in kentucky. it’s nice to finally have a winning season! i’ve been following the teams for three years now and sincerely hope that most of the players from this season will stick around for next year. the first year i had several friends on the team and followed them almost everywhere so it was always a pretty good time, but the best time was definitely when we travelled to taylor and got to witness ’silent night’. let me explain…

a couple of my friends and i drove over to this game (right before christmas) and we were amazed at how many of their students showed up because they packed their bleachers on all four sides and even had students sitting on the floor in front of the bleachers. they themed their game around ‘the night before christmas’ so everyone there was wearing pajamas, which i might add… was rather random until we figured out what was going on with the theme. so tons of their students packed the gym and you would think that it would be ridiculously loud, but no.

no clapping, no yelling, no talking. nothing. just silence. it was insane and like nothing i’d ever seen before.

until they hit ten points (or whatever number it was) and then you couldn’t hear yourself think.

literally. everyone in the entire gym was screaming, the pep band was playing as loud as possible and honestly, i thought my eardrums were going to burst. this didn’t go on for two minutes, it went on for the next two hours or so and then my ears rang for two days. neither team could talk at timeouts because they couldn’t hear eachother and they certainly couldn’t call any plays while on the court because obviously that wasn’t going to work.

why am i telling you this?

because we need something like it! we need students that have that heart and those that will stand behind their team no matter what outcome. we need them to sit back and relax when we’re sailing ahead of the opponent by thirty points and we need them on the edge of their seats waiting on that three-pointer to go in during the final seconds of a close game. we’ve finally got the talent on the basketball team and now we need the fans to back them up. a few of us are going over to iupui to watch the guys this weekend and i hope that you can make it too.  iupui in indy, 7 pm, saturday night the 22nd.

okay, i’m done ranting and raving now. :)

i’ll update you soon on relaxation day and such but for now i’m off to get some things done. hope your week goes well and until next time, take care.

always, d
