Where is the time going?

Hey Red Wolves!
How are you doing? I hope you all are doing fine in your classes. I just realized that next week is mid-terms! AAHH! Where is this semester going? Usually, the fall semester is the long haul, but this year it feels like it’s going way too fast. Must be because I’m going to graduate in May. 
Anyway, did you know that the Spring Schedule of Classes are posted online? Yep. They sure are. You can find them either on Onestart or on IUE homepage at the bottom. I already know what I’m going to take, although it’s pretty much laid out for me at this point. I’m taking Making Democracy Work, Senior Seminar, and Sensation & Perception. I need to take another class to get my full financial aid, but I’m not too sure what I want to take yet. One of my classes, Senior Seminar, meets on a Friday morning! After all this time of having Friday’s off I would have a Friday morning class during my last semester as a Red Wolf! Ha! Happens to me every time! 
I know it’s going to be a hard semester, but I will be ready for it! I just got to get through this semester first!
Besides school, I’ve got a vacation coming up here verysoon. In fact, this Thursday morning, I will be on a plane heading towards Orlando, FL, to get on a Carnival Cruise Ship! Yay! A break! I’m so happy! The reason why I am going on this vacation is because it’s my aunt’s 50th birthday. Don’t worry though, I’ll have plentyof photos and video to share! I don’t plan on taking any homework with me. After all it is a vacation, and if I take homework with me…it won’t be a vacation. Right? I just plan to relax on the deck, read a book, eat, and be merry! The cruise goes to the Bahamas, and I’m very excited to experience their culture! I’ll be gone from Thursday morning until Sunday night, so I probably won’t have any pictures and video up until Monday or Tuesday. So, please stay tuned to see my fun filled vacation!
Before I go, I just want to remind you that we are in flu season. Please keep well! Wash your hand frequently (or use the hand santizers in the hallways or your own) and keep your hands off of your face. Please get plenty of rest, liquids, and food. Also, if you are sick….please stay home. I know school is important, but if you are not feeling great you need to stay home and get well. Please don’t risk getting your fellow Red Wolves sick!

Change is Coming

Hey Red Wolves!
I apologize for not blogging in a week! It’s been crazy busy in my life. So…here it goes!
First off, I have made a major life decision. I have recently became vegetarian which means no meat, dairy, or egg products. I decided to change my lifestyle for the animals. After watching “Meet Your Meat” on Peta.com, I can’t even look at a piece of bacon or a burger without thinking about those poor, suffering animals being abused for human consumption. My main worry about becoming a vegetarian is that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the lifestyle. In fact, it’s very easy to be vegetarian (I just ate Boca’s Chick’n Nuggets – no chickens were harmed in the making of the food). In town, Kroger’s and Mejier carry a great organic/vegetarian selection. Wal-Mart is okay, but it’s not as great as the other two stores. If you want to go out of town, the best place to go is Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, OH. This store has everything for everyone! I can’t even describe it in words!
To go with the new lifestyle changes, my educational life is changing. Over the summer, I applied to Ball State University’s Graduate School for school psychology. I was accepted into the school, but I have yet to hear from the program. Last week, I was scheduled to take my GRE test (a test you have to take to get into graduate school). Unfortunately, I took the practice test and completely bombed it! AAAHH! But, not to worry! I decided that I needed to study more, and I rescheduled my test for the middle of November. Lesson learned: Make sure to take the GRE in the summer and not during the school year!
I’m doing well in all of my classes, but the pressure of getting everything done is starting to get to me. I just feel that there are not enough hours in the day and days in the week to get everything done! I think I need to reorganize my time. What do you think?

Hello Red Wolves!
Are you having a good day? Are you surviving the first week back to class? I hope you are! It’s taking me a while to realize that this school year is the end of the road for my educational journey here at IUE. I really never thought I would make it to this point! It’s been such a ride of ups, downs, and the occasional loop-de-loop! But, I am ready to takle this semester 100% and make it the best semester yet!
Anyway, I’m really going to enjoy my classes this semester. First of all, 3 of my 4 classes are seminar-like classes. Seminar classes are classes in which the instructor does not lucture, but facilitates discussion about readings, case studies, articles, etc. I like these classes better than lecture classes because each of us get the chance to “put our two cents in” about a particular topic. Also, I feel that I learn more in a seminar class because as a class we are teaching each other. I tend to find lectures a little on the boring side, and I have a hard time keeping my focus in a lecture rather than a seminar.
The class that I think I will most enjoy this semester is my history class with Dr. Joanne Passet. In this class, we are focusing in Vietnam. However, we are not going to spend all semester on the war. We are going to be learning about the culture, the people, and the history behind this facinating country. Also, for one of our two papers that we have to complete for the class we have to correspond with a Vietnamese student that Dr. Passet will assign to us. I’m so excited about this because it’ll be great to learn about Vietnam through the eyes of a Vietnamese student! Likewise, it’ll be fun to tell him or her about America and the way we live. It’s going to be a tough class, but I know that it’ll be so worth it!

Hey Everyone!
First off, I hope that each of you had a great spring break and are rested enough to tackle these last few weeks of the semester.
Being the week after spring break you can imagine how crazy it’s been for everyone! First, getting back into the swing of things is kind of hard once you’ve pretty much done nothing for a week. Just remembering when my classes were and when I had to be at work was a struggle in its self! But, I made it through. Now, I’ve got to get through this last few weeks and it’s school free until August.
This past week we had two very exciting events! The first one was “Chat with the Chancellor” on Tuesday. I always enjoy this event because it gives the students an opportunity to speak with Chancellor Paydar about the issues we see on our campus. A whole host of questions were asked from the no smoking policy to the Health and Wellness Center. Chancellor Paydar answered these questions very thoroughly and it made for a great session.
The second event was an Etiquette Dinner hosted by the IUE Alumni Association at the Gennett Mansion. This dinner was so much fun and all of us learned a lot. The event was catered by Classic Catering and our instructor was from Cincinnati where she taught business etiquette. The meal was a 4 course dinner consisting of soup, salad, a main course, and dessert. One of the things we learned was how to properly pass the bread and butter. First, you offer to the left (and make sure you hold onto the plate for dear life) and then pass to the right, but don’t ever serve yourself first!!! We also learned how to properly cut our meat, fold our napkins in our laps, know which drink and bread plate is ours, and so much more! This event was such a success and I hope that the IUE Alumni Association will make this an annual event for students, staff, and faculty!

Springtime is here….FINALLY!

Yay! I’m so happy that spring is here! It’s been such a horrible winter, and I am so excited to see green grass, hear birds chirping, and have 60 to 70 degree weather! Mother nature is finally on our side!
Lots of things are happening at IUE! First, last Friday a fairly large group of students, staff, and community members went to the Legislature Forumat the Richmond Community Schools Administration Building. There, we met with our local senators to, again, lobby for our Health and Wellness Center. Also, we got a chance to ask questions and discuss local political issues with the legislators. In addition, our group was so huge that they had to bring in extra chairs to seat everyone, and there were still people (mostly from IUE) who were standing in the back of the room! Overall, I feel that we made a great impression not only on our legislatures, but on the community. We showed the community and the legislators that we’re here to stay!
Next, this week has be C-R-A-Z-Y! I have had 2 tests in 2 days and a major assignment due. However, I’m very grateful that all of this is happening before Spring Break and not after Spring Break. It always seems like every time I have a test to study for or a project to do over a break, I procrastinate and start it at 8 pm on a Sunday! I’m sure that’s a familiar tune to all of us!
Over Spring Break, I’m just going to relax. My biggest project over break is to finish scoring surveys for Dr. Lundy’s research project. We will be presenting our findings at the Midwestern Psychological Conference in April, so we to get things done so we won’t be scrambling at the last minute. However, my break is just not going to consist of scoring surveys. Saturday is my 22nd birthday, and my family and I are going to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens to celebrate! I can’t think of a better way to turn 22 than to go visit animals! I love animals! Then on Sunday, we will be doing a little shopping at the Jeffersonville Outlet Mall in Jeffersonville, OH. I will definitely have pictures and stories to share with all of you!

He put a spell on us…

What a riot! We had so much fun that night! Frederick had people do everything from MTV dancing to pretending they were laying eggs! It was a great ending to the school week! Kudos to the Student Events Team (SET) for getting him to come to the school!
Well Red Wolves spring is upon us, and all I have to say is HALLEUJAH! It’s been such a rough winter, and I never want to see another snowflake! I have promised myself that when it gets to be about 98 degrees in the summer…I’m not complaining. At least it’s better than -20 below with a foot of snow!
Many people are talking about what they’re going to do for spring break and getting all of their plans in order. I’m not doing much for spring break. I plan on working in the office and will hopefully have a few pet sitting jobs as well. I wish I was going someplace nice, warm, and sunny, but it just wasn’t in the cards this year.
As many of you know, the class schedules for the summer and fall are now up on OneStart. The other night, I went to go pick out my classes for the fall and it took me a HOUR to find the classes I want. When you get to be a senior, the class pool shrinks because you’ve either taken most of the classes or there are time conflicts. I have a meeting with our dean on Monday to make sure that I’m on track to graduate in May 2010!
