Hello out there! How are ya? I haven’t talked to you all in a while. I’ve been super busy with school and other things in my exciting life (haha).

So, what’s new you might ask? What’s new is graduation is 69 days away! YAHOO! Do you know how HAPPY that makes me and my fellow graduates?! However, there is this little thing called class getting in the way of graduation. So far, I’m doing pretty well in my classes. The only class that I am a little scared about is my Senior Seminar class. In this class, we have do to a 25-page paper on a topic related to change. My topic is on elderly people and pet ownership, and what happens to these people when they have to give up their pets when they enter a long term health care facility. The change comes in when we look at what could be done differently to help facilitate elderly people when they loose their pets. So, you think a 25-page paper is all you have to do for this class? This sounds easy. Haha my friends. You are wrong. Along with the paper, we have to read 4 articles a week that is chosen by are classmates to be discussed during class. We are separated into 2 groups where we discuss 2 articles and write a reflection paper for the other 2 articles we did not discuss. Also, we have to do a poster presentation and power point presentation over our paper. Yes, it’s a lot of work, but surprisingly I’m doing well in keeping up with the required reading and my paper! =)

On a more personal note, I have started to look for a full time job after graduation. I have applied to around 15 jobs already, and I’ve heard back from one already. The job is at ITT Technical Institute in Carmel, IN, and the position is for the Student Success Coordinator. I’ve been playing phone tag with the HR lady for about a week now, and if I don’t hear back from her tomorrow I’m going to give her another call. It’s actually a scary process applying for jobs because jobs are so scarce right now that everyone who has the qualifications for a job is applying. So, I have to make myself stand out even more! I’ll keep you updated how my job hunt goes as the semester rolls along.

Well, my Wolves, I need to get back to the homework. Have a great weekend, and I will talk to you later!

HOWL!

Welcome back! Did you all have a wonderful and safe vacation? I sure did, but now it’s time to get serious and get back to the books!

This semester is bittersweet for me because this is my LAST semester as a Red Wolf. Every day I get closer and closer to becoming an IUE Alumnus. However, this semester is going to be the most challenging for me as far as classes are concerned. All of my classes are upper level classes (as should they be), and one class is my senior seminar for BSS. This class requires me to complete a minimum 25 page paper, a group presentation; and a solo presentation infront of the class, instructors, and invited BSS faculty and guests. And all papers and projects combine all of the information that I have learned from my BSS classes over the past 3 years. I’ve been told by previous students that this is the most fun class of the entire program. So, I’m just going to pace myself and not procrastinate with my work in this class or my other classes!

On the other side of this semester lies the “real world.” I’ve already begun the process of writing my resume and searching for jobs. But wait…wasn’t I going to graduate school? The answer is no. Not right now. I am so burnt out on school that I need a break from the academia lifestyle. I need a job that when I leave the office and come home, I know that I do not have 4-5 hours of homework lying ahead of me. I’m not too sure where I will end up, but I’m sure that I will find a good fit for me.

On a funny note, if you have been following American Idol this season there’s a good possibility that you saw the Atlanta, GA, auditions last week. If you did, you witnessed “Pants On The Ground.” If you didn’t catch it, here it is for you’re viewing pleasure! I love this song! It says what the majority of America has been saying since I was in 7th grade (2000).

Did you enjoy Homecoming? I know that I sure enjoyed myself! I didn’t get to all of the activities last week, but the ones I did go to were a blast! I’m having difficulty loading my videos and pictures onto my computer, so when I get them loaded, I’ll make sure to post them!

I’m so thankful that Thanksgiving Break is right around the corner! I am so in need of a break from classes, and I’m sure most of you are in need of a nice break as well. However, the week after Thanksgiving I have 4 projects due! Who thought it would be a great idea to make all the projects due after Thanksgiving? Ugh! Gotta love college!!

The other day, I turned in my Application for Graduation. It feels so weird to officially say that I will be graduating in May of 2010. I really thought that this moment would never come. It’s been a hard road, but I think I’m going to make it! I know that these last weeks of this semester and the Spring semster are going to be hard, but it’ll be all worth it to have an IU degree on May 14, 2010. To all of my fellow Seniors, make sure you know when your application is due! You don’t want to miss out on graduation because “you forgot” to turn in your application!

Well, I need to get off of here and get some work done. I hope all of you have a great week, and as soon as I get my pictures and videos loaded I will post them on here!

Happy Thursday Night!

Today was a special day for the Admissions staff & the Ambassadors. We welcomed about 60 guidance counselors from area high schools to participate in IU East’s annual Counselor’s Appreciation Breakfast. During this special event, counselors are treated to a great breakfast, and they are handed scholarship money for their seniors. However, today over 7 million dollars were handed out to the counselors! In fact, each counselor went back to their high schools with over $100,000 (I can’t remember the exact number); which, in turn, will give two deserving students full rides to IU East! I was so ecstatic for our campus to give out a great amount of money to help future Red Wolves pay for their quality college education!

However, the counselors had to work for their money. In order to get their money, they had to play “The Price is Right” with John Dalton (a.k.a. Bob Barker). John was an excellent host! I think he might have missed his true calling as a game show host! HAHA! Unfortunately, dorky me forgot her camera at home – so I did not get any pictures or video from the event. Sorry John…I guess you won’t be the big star in a video this time around. So, if anyone out there has some pictures from the event they would like to share, please contact me and I will get those pictures up ASAP!

I have noticed that as the semester winds down and crunch time settles in, we all have gotten a little grumpy. So, for your viewing pleasure (and entertainment)….please welcome Sherman the Monkey!

HAHA! That gets me every time! I hope it made your day just a little bit brighter!

Well, Red Wolves, I need to get to bed. I have another Ambassador event to work tomorrow morning, and need to get my rest! Please take care of yourselves!

Hey gang!

These past couple of weeks have been terrible for me. After I got home from the cruise, my dog Peyton hurt his back leg. I took him to the vet, and the vet said that he tore his ACL and would need surgery to fix his leg. That really got to me because Peyton is my baby and it was going to cost $12oo for the surgery. Fortunately, I’m going to get a second opinion from another doctor before going ahead with the surgery. Then, to make matters worse, I was sick the day of my Vietnam midterm! I had to reschedule it last Wednesday! I was really upset about missing my exam because that’s the first time I have ever missed an exam in my college career!

On a positive note, I had a fabulous time on the cruise! Unfortuantely, my memory card for my camera didn’t work so I couldn’t take any video! Boo! However, I did get lots of pictures. Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure:

I really wish I was back on the cruise ship right now!! We had such a great time! The best part of the entire trip was forgetting about life for 3 days. I just lounged around, ate, had a few drinks, and forgot about the world.

This semester is flying by so fast! I can’t believe that Thanksgiving Break is in 2 weeks. It’s going to be a busy 2 weeks as well. I’ve got a couple projects due and a handful of papers due all before the break! Will it ever end?!?!

Well gang, I better get off of here.

Have a great weekend, and I will keep you updated!

Hey Red Wolves!

How are you doing? I hope you all are doing fine in your classes. I just realized that next week is mid-terms! AAHH! Where is this semester going? Usually, the fall semester is the long haul, but this year it feels like it’s going way too fast. Must be because I’m going to graduate in May. Anyway, did you know that the Spring Schedule of Classes are posted online? Yep. They sure are. You can find them either on Onestart or on IUE homepage at the bottom. I already know what I’m going to take, although it’s pretty much laid out for me at this point. I’m taking Making Democracy Work, Senior Seminar, and Sensation & Perception. I need to take another class to get my full financial aid, but I’m not too sure what I want to take yet. One of my classes, Senior Seminar, meets on a Friday morning! After all this time of having Friday’s off I would have a Friday morning class during my last semester as a Red Wolf! Ha! Happens to me every time! I know it’s going to be a hard semester, but I will be ready for it! I just got to get through this semester first!

Besides school, I’ve got a vacation coming up here verysoon. In fact, this Thursday morning, I will be on a plane heading towards Orlando, FL, to get on a Carnival Cruise Ship! Yay! A break! I’m so happy! The reason why I am going on this vacation is because it’s my aunt’s 50th birthday. Don’t worry though, I’ll have plentyof photos and video to share! I don’t plan on taking any homework with me. After all it is a vacation, and if I take homework with me…it won’t be a vacation. Right? I just plan to relax on the deck, read a book, eat, and be merry! The cruise goes to the Bahamas, and I’m very excited to experience their culture! I’ll be gone from Thursday morning until Sunday night, so I probably won’t have any pictures and video up until Monday or Tuesday. So, please stay tuned to see my fun filled vacation!

Before I go, I just want to remind you that we are in flu season. Please keep well! Wash your hand frequently (or use the hand santizers in the hallways or your own) and keep your hands off of your face. Please get plenty of rest, liquids, and food. Also, if you are sick….please stay home. I know school is important, but if you are not feeling great you need to stay home and get well. Please don’t risk getting your fellow Red Wolves sick!

Well, that’s all for now! I probably won’t post anything until after the cruise, so please take care of yourselves!

HOWL!

I tell you what, I am so swamped with work right now, and I just can’t seem to get it all done! What’s worse is that I am totally loosing my focus. I know what needs to be done and how to get it done, but I’m not getting that focus that I need. On Saturday night, I made a trip out to Starbucks (Bear Creek wasn’t open) to get a Pumpkin Spice Latte (if you haven’t tried one, you need to) to help me with my work. Unfortunately, it didn’t help me study but it did keep me up all night. Speaking of my Starbucks, I got a venti to keep me going through the night and, as expected, it got cold on me. So, I popped it in the microwave for about a minute to get it nice and hot. About 45 seconds into the reheating process, I heard a loud popping sound coming from the microwave. I just ignored it until the minute was over and I opened up the door. Do you know what I found when I opened the door? No it wasn’t Patrick Dempsey or a million dollars (although those would be REALLY nice), but I found that my Pumpkin Spice Latte had exploded! It wasn’t a bad mess to clean, but I now know that I can’t leave my coffee in the microwave for a minute. Here’s a picture of what the side of my cup now looks like:

Yep, it was a mess to clean up! Recently, I’ve been asking around to seek which one is a better brand of computer: Mac, Dell, or HP. I’ve gotten alot of positive feedback about Mac Computers, but they are so expensive! A MacBook Air is $1499! For that amount of money, it better be good! You’re probably wonder why I’m shopping around for a computer. Well, my computer is OK, but….well….you be the judge:

Yeah…it’s missing 3 keys and it’s not very fast either. So…if you have an opinion on whether Mac, HP, or Dell computers are better than the others, please let me know!

Well, I need to get back to my psychology homework. I hope all of you are having a great week & I’ll see you later!

Hey Red Wolves!

I apologize for not blogging in a week! It’s been crazy busy in my life. So…here it goes!

First off, I have made a major life decision. I have recently became vegetarian which means no meat, dairy, or egg products. I decided to change my lifestyle for the animals. After watching “Meet Your Meat” on Peta.com, I can’t even look at a piece of bacon or a burger without thinking about those poor, suffering animals being abused for human consumption. My main worry about becoming a vegetarian is that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the lifestyle. In fact, it’s very easy to be vegetarian (I just ate Boca’s Chick’n Nuggets – no chickens were harmed in the making of the food). In town, Kroger’s and Mejier carry a great organic/vegetarian selection. Wal-Mart is okay, but it’s not as great as the other two stores. If you want to go out of town, the best place to go is Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield, OH. This store has everything for everyone! I can’t even describe it in words!

To go with the new lifestyle changes, my educational life is changing. Over the summer, I applied to Ball State University’s Graduate School for school psychology. I was accepted into the school, but I have yet to hear from the program. Last week, I was scheduled to take my GRE test (a test you have to take to get into graduate school). Unfortunately, I took the practice test and completely bombed it! AAAHH! But, not to worry! I decided that I needed to study more, and I rescheduled my test for the middle of November. Lesson learned: Make sure to take the GRE in the summer and not during the school year!

I’m doing well in all of my classes, but the pressure of getting everything done is starting to get to me. I just feel that there are not enough hours in the day and days in the week to get everything done! I think I need to reorganize my time. What do you think?

Well kids…I gotta get going. Need to study before class tonight. Have a great week and I will catch up with you next week!

HOWL!

Did you hear? IUE enrollment is up by 20%! Do you know what that means? We have close to 3,000 students on campus! No wonder I have a hard time trying to find a parking spot!

I think that our enrollment increase is incredible! It’s so great to see so many people choosing IUE for their post-secondary education journey! I think the majority of the credit goes to the Admissions office for doing a wonderful job recruiting new students! Actually, I was in an Ambassadors meeting yesterday and we were informed that we already have like 1,000 prospective students for the 2010-2011 school year & close to 90-something applicants for the same year. That’s mind blowing to think that so many people have already inquired about coming to school here and/or have already applied for the next school year! This definitely shows the community that Indiana University East is a strong force in the Eastern Indiana/Western Ohio school pool!

Speaking of Ambassadors, we have a ton of events, phone calls, and high school visits this semester. We’ve actually gone a little event happy (which is a very good thing)! It seems like there are some weeks where we have 3 events back-to-back! It’s going to be crazy, but so much fun getting to welcome prospective students, new students, and others what IU East is all about!

Well, kiddos…I need to get off of here and get my work done for next week. But before I go, I want to give a shout out to our volleyball team for being UNDEFEATED! Great job Lady Red Wolves! =)

Take care!

Hello friends!

How was your second week of school? Are you getting adjusted to your school schedule? I’m actually having a little difficulty getting back into my groove. Being gone from school for the entire summer has set me back in my schedule! I’m having a terrible time trying to get back into a sleep and study pattern! AHH! I’ve got to work on that….

By the way, I forgot to mention my FYS class that I am peer mentoring this semester! I have to say that Dr. Lundy & I have a great group of students! They are very smart, insightful, and excited to be here at IU East! For their first day of class, I made them a little care packet. Each packet contained one highlighter, one packet of post-it notes, one pen, one pencil, one packet of flags, 2 pieces of chocolate, 2 pieces of Starbursts, and Dr. Lundy’s & my contact information. I think they enjoyed their packet! At least I hope the did anyway!

A care packet with Rufus Jr.

In other news, I saw many students having fun at the Back with the Pack events this week. I think that everyone involved with these events really outdid themselves this year! I have never seen so many smiles of students faces since the end of the spring semester! Tuesday we had free ice cream from Ritter’s! Yummy! It’s been a while since I’ve had any Ritter’s. On Wednesday was the cookout & student organizations fair. I did notice lots of students checking out the different clubs on campus! That’s awesome! Also, lots of students had fun trying to dunk different people from the faculty & staff. I tried to dunk them, but I just don’t have the greatest arm! Thursday was the movie in the Quad. I could not attend this event because of a pet sitting commitment, but I’m sure those who went had a great time! Here’s a video of highlights from Wednesday’s festivities…

Wasn’t that fun! I wanted to join in on the water slide, but I forgot a change of clothes! OOPS! =/

Anyway, I hope that everyone enjoys the weekend. It’s supposed to be beautiful! We might as well enjoy this wonderful weather before it gets cold, nasty, WHITE!

Take care Red Wolves!

HOWL!
