British Birthday Bash!

BIRTHDAY!

My closest friends at the start of the night!

October is almost over! I can’t believe it! With school in full swing and all of us at Kent scrambling to finish our essays, nothing new has been happening except…I am now 21! I turned 21 on Sunday and on Saturday my housemates and friends threw me a massive birthday celebration equipped with snacks, drinks and decorations you’d find at the best/coolest sweet 16 ever! It was so cute! Haha! But really, it was the best birthday I could have ever asked for! I got a huge Cath Kidston mug from my housemate Jason that is perfect for my morning hot tea! :) I also got about 10 Toblerone bars, even the white chocolate and MASSIVE variety! Then, prepare yourselves, for my official presents, my housemates bought a didgeridoo, maraca and recorder and performed “Happy Birthday” for me during my party. If those aren't the best presents in the history of presents, I don’t know what are. How I’m going to lug a didgeridoo back to the states, I have no clue. They even practiced before my party to perfect their “sound.” Ha! The next morning, well more like late afternoon (ha!), my housemate Lizzie made us all a wonderful English fry up! We had eggs, bacon, beans, sausage, hash browns, toast, orange juice and milk. SO. GOOD. My birthday weekend in Canterbury was one I will never forget and I am so blessed to have spent it with the people I did! Just throwing it out there, I have the best housemates in all of England! Also- I have something special planned for my next blog so stay tuned! But it'll be late next week as I am going to Paris this weekend...no big deal, right? My friends and I are going into the catacombs for Halloween!! I feel an Edgar Allan Poe moment coming on! 'Til next time...

Can finally breath a little sigh of relief

Just got done with my last OB test for the semester!! I'm a little nervous but I feel pretty confident. 8:30 A.M. tests are rough, but for any nursing students reading this, DON'T PROCRASTINATE with your studying! I feel a lot better that it is over now. Now, a much needed break until the next test.

I would talk about football this weekend, but OSU was on a bye week and after the performance of my Colts last night I don't know if I can stomach talking about it. LOL Like all the Bengals fans say, "there is always next year". I got to stay loyal to my team but Peyton Manning can't come back soon enough.

And since everyone else posted pictures of their dogs on here, meet Bentley. He is a little mut and is only about the size of a football. He can be a little pain to housebreak, but he is still the man. He definitely has "little dog" syndrome but unless your a lady bug or power cord, you have nothing to worry about lol.

In Desperate Need of Vitamin M (motivation).

Goofing off with Alyssa Tegeler. Suffering from senioritis.

Rash Decisions

I love being a Communications major. The classes I take literally help me approach my life in a different manner. I get to learn about a variety of subjects that will do nothing but help me get a better perspective on daily, real-life communication. I’m taking an interpersonal conflict class and I’m actually learning something that I can apply to my daily life. Obviously, in the class we are learning how to control, deal with, and even prevent conflict. While doing this, I am learning so much about myself and how humans in general respond and react to conflict; everyone is different. My job is to be able to comfort and compliment any one’s style; it’s a tough gig! That’s what school and texts books are for. I’ve got to do the dirty work if I want to be the best.

I titled this blog “rash decisions” (try saying that 3 times in a row… I keep saying it like rash de-sh-sions, hahaha) because I want to take the time to make sure you take the time before you make a decision. I’m no therapist or preacher, but I do know a little about decision making. We’re young and we’re in college. Making your OWN decision is important, but making the RIGHT decision is even more vital. No matter the decision you are trying to make, you MUST take the time to think it over. Never give up on someone, especially yourself. Always consider ALL of your options; if the door is opened to you, see what’s inside!

*The sky is the limit; don’t sell yourself short and never settle for less!

If you look closely, you can see Jesus (in a gown) releasing a dove

What is light as a feather and can’t be held for very long??

Well the answer to the riddle would be----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AIR!! haha good one right??

Another week has been completed which means we are one week closer to the End of the Fall semester!! Overwhelmed would be an understatement to describe my schedule right now. I have literally become a nerd. I stay in on the weekends studying, and when I have free time I am thinking about nursing things! I just keep reminding myself that it only gets better :)

I had my first clinical rotations at Reid, and needless to say I have never been so nervous in my life! It was quite the experience and after the first day I wanted to quit. I felt like I didn't know anything. Thankfully the next day was a lot better and I even administered my first Subcutaneous injection, which if you know me at all you know that I am deathly afraid of needles Lol! So that was a huge step #winning btw my twitter link was messed up on a previous blog but No Worries------> FOLLOW ME @kaitdbay_08

London Town Adventures!

LONDON

LONDON!

I hope you all soldiered through my last, semi-depressing blog because I can reassure you that I am a peppy Delta Nu sister again (Last Legally Blonde reference, I promise!) ready to write about more of my adventures in England! I am actually really happy that I was chosen to blog this year because it will be interesting to look back on my ever-changing feelings and have documentation of the highs and lows of my trip! So let’s get started, shall we?

Last week was MUCH better than its predecessor and I only got lost once when trying to find a class! ;) In an ironic twist of things, all of my classes this semester happen to be related in some way, which I’m finding to be rather exciting (Hermione-esque nerd in me, I know).  I’m taking Human Biology, Human Physiology, Ancient Greek Religion and History of Medicine. My two Biology classes are my favorite (obviously?) and the books I’m assigned to read are actually interesting and easy to follow despite the complex material. I’m learning about the body and why it responds the way it does, and then I’m learning how doctors dealt with diseases in the early 13th and 14th centuries by knowledge given to them from summarizations of the ancient Greek revolutionary, Galen who took his approach from Hippocratic influence. See?! It’s very interesting and challenging to participate in my Classical Studies and History classes because I am not used to thinking as openly as I’m required but I’m trying (!) and having underlying connections to my favorite classes makes me want to become involved. Besides school, my BFF Christina, who I’m sure you’ll be reading about frequently in my blogs, always plans a trip for us on Saturdays. A couple of Saturdays ago we went to LONDON! We went to the British Museum of Natural History, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park, the M&M Store, and Trafalgar Square. After the museum and walking in the footsteps of William and Kate, we went shopping on Oxford Street which is the main street for shopping with all of the essentials: H&M, Primark, Forever21, TopShop and many more. Primark is an insanely cheap clothing store, like Forever21 on crack. I got the cutest purse for the equivalent of $9! Only problem was, the Primark on Oxford Street is chaotic, like Black Friday all the time. After surviving Primark, we walked around in hopes of seeing Brangelina or Pippa but we had no such luck. What we did find was a restaurant that served the best Fish and Chips! Before leaving we went and saw Big Ben at night and it was gorgeous! You look at these buildings and wonder how they are even real! The architecture is truly amazing! We are planning another trip to London in the future where we’ll ride on the London Eye and get all of our obligatory, kitschy London memorabilia. Hopefully then we can scout out royalty, or even better, David Beckham!

LONDON

Nick and I recapturing the love at the Royal Wedding!

The end of this week will mark my one month in England and I can’t believe how fast time has flown! My birthday is almost here (October 23, send presents) and if I were back in the states I would be freaking out! Even though turning 21 here isn’t as huge as it is in the states, I am so happy and thankful to have such amazing, close friends to make it a big deal!  I have been so blessed with wonderful roommates and friends who are always there for me when I need them. I wish you all could have an experience as wonderful as mine is turning out to be. So consider study abroad! No matter how scary it may be, believe me, you won’t regret it! 'Til next time-

It’s not always about me…

I only talk about myself on here. It's always about me, myself, and I. I'm thinking it's time for some other news.

Justin Judd, my friend on the tennis team

The IUE Men's Tennis team played this weekend and won 2 of 3 matches at Saint Joseph's College Invitational. They men's actual season is in the spring. The women's season is going on right now. Their record is 10 - 3. Their KIAC record is 8-3. The women's team has a few more matches left. GOOD LUCK GIRLS!

Cross Country, a pow wow before the race

The Cross Country team experienced their first home event. IUE hosted its first home meet on the certified course. The women ran a 5k while the men ran an 8k. It was said that the course was very challenging and a good test for any runner.

Women's and Men's Golf have both finished their fall seasons and will begin play March of 2012 for the spring season.

Rufus and the squad

The Cheerleading and Competitive Dance teams are gearing up for the basketball season. Each day I see the girls come in and out of the Graf. In the gym the practice, get their steps down, work on new moves, and prepare for a (hopefully successful) season!

Okay... I had to mention this! At our volleyball game last week (at Urbana), they had cheerleaders there. I've only seen cheerleaders at 1 volleyball game in my life. I went to the semi-finals when IU played Ohio State in Dayton. IU had their entire cheerleading squad there. Anyways... at Urbana, the cheerleading squad was there, dressed in pink, and doing their thing on the stage. It was very interesting! Although we SMASHED them, the cheerleaders never stopped.

Colts game baby!

Let's see where to start. I had a pretty busy week followed by a pretty lazy weekend lol. It started off with a med/surg exam on Monday (which I got an A on (: !! ) then I had my first clinicals at the hospital. I was on the pedes floor and I couldn't have had a better experience/patient for my first time. I got to give their medicines, help walk around the floor, and just hang out and watch Scooby Doo reruns. I have always been interested in pediatric nursing, and this just really help reinforce that. It was a nice little bit of motivation to stay positive and working hard through the rest of school.

Then there was the weekend...

Sunday I got to go watch my favorite NFL team, the Colts. Yeah, I know it hasn't exactly been "their year" but I can't abandon my boys. I got some tickets from a lady I work with that were right above the Colt's tunnel to their locker room. Even though the lost, again, it was still an exciting game and sitting that close to the field is fun no matter what happened.

I guess the 9th row will do
