Volleyball Team Introduced at IU East Boys Basketball Game!

IUE Volleyball hit a rough spot…

This past weekend, IUE volleyball team took a roadtrip to Asbury College for the second weekend in a row. The first weekend we had a good time and went 2-0. Then another week passed, and we headed back down there for some more competition. We played 2 games on Friday and 2 on Saturday. We started Friday by playing Bryan College. We played tough, but came out short and lost in 5 games. We then had a break between games, so all of us got to rest for a game before we played our next match. Our final match of the night was against Marion. We have played Marion a few weeks before at home, and got beat in 5 close games. We wanted to get a win on them, but we came out having too many errors and not enough focus. These kind of problems cause another loss for us. We all were very frustrated with losing and somewhat with each other after our first games of the weekend. We then talked it out and got everything back on track; we were ready for the next day. We played an early game Saturday (9:00 am). We played Webber College from Florida. We came out strong and talkative, and looked like IUE volleyball. As the game progressed, we died down and seemed satisfied with how we were playing. It wasn’t working for us at all. Finally, we played back to where we needed to be, and we pushed out to play a 5th game. We ended up coming out short in the last set and lost. At this point, we were coming 0-3 for the weekend before our last match. We played our last match against St. Catherine College. They weren’t as strong as the other teams we played, but we knew we had to play our game no matter what. All the girls came out strong! We won the match is 3 games. This win helped us overcome the rest of the weekend in a way. We finished 1-3. We have learned that we have to be on our toes for any team. When our game is on, were good; but when it’s not–it’s not going to be easy at all. We all win some and we all lose some. IUE volleyball has realized we have a lot to work on, we just found out kind of in a bad way. :) We still have the rest of season and conference! *18-8..2-0*

*OUR HOUSE…8-0*

Lastnight, IUE Volleyball team had their first home game! They played Miami University-Middletown. We played them lastnight year, and won in 3 matches. But coming out in a new season, Miami had recruited a stronger outside and middle hitter; so we knew it wasn’t going to be a cake walk! As we started warming up, more and more fans entered the gym. By the time we started warm ups, the gym was filled with students, family, and IUE fans! The teams’ adrenaline was high, and we’re pumped about playing at home! When it was finally game time, the gym was pretty crowded for a volleyball game. We started a new thing this year, called the “Howl Crowd,” which is where IUE students can go to Campus Life and get a t-shirt that says “Howl Crowd” and they get to sit in a set of bleachers on one end of the court. They started out quiet at first, then they all finally started yelling and cheering! The first match was played pretty close, but we finished out 25-15. Next match was also close, we came out with 25-16. The final match, the crowd was loud and we came out ready to play! We won 25-8! Lastnight home opener set a new record for IUE. They had the most fans at a IUE volleyball match lastnight–and it changed the tempo of the game for the players! The crowd brought energy for us during the last match, and it was proven by the score. IUE Volleyball is now 8-0 and we will be heading over to Cedarville, Ohio this Friday and Saturday. Our next home game is next Wednesday, September 16th at 7:00!!!!!! I hope to see everyone back!!!! See ya!
