I need a cigarette. I’ve been craving one for quite sometime–too long. I feel myself getting anxious and moody. It is now 2:11p.m. and the last time I had one was about 10:45a.m. What I would do to inhale that nasty smoke into my lungs so I calm down.
It’s sad what drugs can do to you. And it’s sad that I don’t automatically consider cigarettes a drug anymore–it feels more like my medication to keep me calm and sane. It has become a daily habit that I don’t even think about. I don’t think of it has something dangerous, but only as something to help me stay alive….it’s a necessity, much like the cell phone for most people.
So now I sit here at the computer, typing away, praying that this would help the cravings go away or at least stop torturing me until 5:00p.m. It’s not working. I can’t stop thinking about how good it will feel when I light it up and feel the smoke enter my lungs. It’s almost an instant fix, until the next time.
And now my patience is gone, gone until the poison is put back into my body. I am reminded the time in elementary when we were put through the D.A.R.E. program. I remind myself of the time when I said, “I’ll never touch the stuff,” and a class-mate said, “you will someday.” I didn’t believe him, but I should have known better ’cause curiosity kills the cat. I hate it, but at the same time I love it.
I would be so much better if I could just go outside and at LEAST take a couple hits–that’s all I want, but it’s not permitted. Why? Good question, it’s not like there’s not enough air circulation. Even if there is someone who doesn’t like it, doesn’t mean they have to stand next to me. There’s plenty of room outside!
Sometimes I feel like the people with power and authority enjoy the satisfaction of stripping us from our own personal choices. I remember being a child and my parents telling me that I can’t do something. And I remember thinking, “I can’t wait until I can tell someone that.” Then I finally realized that no matter what, someone will always be telling you that–Uncle Sam. I wish for a divorce, but that won’t solve my problem, it won’t give me the nicotine that I need, or think I need, or whatever.
2 more hours, just 2 more hours….

I try to never have expectations in fear of being disappointed, but in some cases, it’s easier said then done.
Probably about a month or so ago, I had the chance of buying a PA system to use for my newly formed band. It all sounded good….maybe too good to be true. Originally, it was to be a Peavey system with an 800w head, two towers with a couple 12” or 15” speakers in each of the towers, and two Shure mics for only $100. Something didn’t sound right. All of that for $100? I automatically assumed that there had have been a mix up, or it was stolen. The two mics (for $100) I could understand, after all they’re Shure, one of the best mic brands, but the 800w head and the towers too? Yeah, right! But it sounded promising; it included all the cables and was ready to play.
I waited about a week and still had not seen it, but only heard about it. The wait was killing me…this would’ve been a great investment for the band, and I was stoked! We all were.
The next time I talked with my friend who knew the person selling the system, I was told, indeed, there was a mix up. The towers only had like 8 6” speakers, with a 50w head instead of the bogus 800w, with mics NOT included. It all started to make a little bit more since, but I wasn’t about to put money into anything without testing it first.
Finally, one day I was able to check out the system. It was not at all what I expected. I guess that’s what I get, but I shouldn’t have gotten my hopes up like I did. The towers were obviously used, more than what was said. It looked like someone beat the crap out them or something. On top of that, there were no cables to test it out, so I automatically said “no.” After all that time going through the mess, I decided to just save up and buy my own….
And I’m back to where I started.

Tuesday I had the honor of meeting IU East’s goddess of blogs—Olivia.
There I was, sitting at my desk at work when she walked in with Zak, one of IU East’s best Web Developers (Aaron being another very talented developer, of course). My first thought was, “wow, she’s shorter than I expected.” I don’t know why I thought that…I guess her picture on her page makes her look taller?
But size doesn’t matter ‘cause I’m short too…compared to some people. There are many advantages of being short, just check out these sites: Short Persons Support: Research : Advantages of Shorter Height, Advantages Of Being Short, and sortstuff.org.uk The home of short people.
I was a bit nervous to meet her, (as I am with meeting most people), but this was different. I’ve read her blogs and I’m really impressed. I admit, I’m not really a great writer, so it kinda made me feel intimidated. After we introduced each other and shook hands, I felt like bowing down and saying, “I’m not worthy!!” like Mike Myers and Dana Carvey did to Alice Cooper in Wayne’s World. I was only able to talk with her for a few minutes (I was curious of how she gets ideas for her blogs because I have troubles thinking of what to write about), but she seemed like a very nice person with a good sense of humor.
So 4:00 came and it was time for me to leave. I said my goodbyes to Zak and Aaron, told Olivia it was nice to meet her, and I was out. When I came back into work the next day, there was a note on my desk. It said, “I know! You can blog about meeting the goddess of blogs!” Hehehe. So was that note intended to be a joke? Maaaaaaybeeeee??? Just kidding. I would bet that it was meant to be a joke since I didn’t find a single ounce of self-centeredness as I talked with her, but guess what? Joking (or not), she gave me the idea, and usually, (not always) when someone gives me an idea, I’ll roll with it. Thanks Olivia (Liv), hehe. By the way, I noticed the “Pandora” link on her page and decided to check it out. I’m diggin’ it! It is a site where you can customize your own internet radio stations. Very easy to use and so far, seems to be very reliable—I highly recommend it. Props to the goddess of blogs on that, ha!
Side note: Thanks to Zak and Aaron for all of their assistance in teaching me about web design—you guys have been extremely helpful! And, and thank you again Olivia, for giving me the idea for this blog.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for future blogs, let me know! I’m pretty much open for anything…as long as it’s appropriate for me to post.
See ya around

Yesterday, Liz (my girlfriend) and I went up to Toledo, OH so that she could try on her bridesmaid’s dress for her brother’s wedding. After driving 30-40 minutes to Greenville to meet Liz, I had another 2+ hours until we would reach our destination….yay! Sarcasm. But it really wasn’t that bad—could’ve been worse I suppose. So what is there to do in the car for that long?? Well, on the way to Greenville I popped in some Rancid and cranked it up. The weather was sooo nice as I cruised down US 36 with my windows down and the wind blowing through my hair.
We left Greenville around 2:00pm in Liz’s Sunfire. The trip was a trip—nothing exciting really happened on the way….just the two of us enjoying each other’s company, talking about our future plans and whatnot. The first song that came on in her car was “Hotel California” by The Eagles. Of course, I attempted to sing along, but failed miserably. HA. On the way there we also listened to some old Fleetwood Mac, (Tango in the Night album), and a variety of Christian songs.
We arrived around 5:00pm and visited with Liz’s future sister-in-law….well, they mostly talked about the wedding and stuff and I just sat there, but it was alright. After an hour of talk about the wedding and general stuff, it was time to head to David’s Bridal….where I found myself a nice soft couch and made myself at home. I admit, from a males perspective, it wasn’t no awesome concert, no big party or anything like that, but I didn’t mind-I think we were only there for about a half hour, so not a big deal.
So after we left the bridal place, we then went back to her brother’s apartment and I saw my first glimpse of the beta version of Halo 3. Gamers, if you have not checked it out, I think you’re gonna be amazed! It looks like it’s going to be a really good game once they get the game finalized. It was getting late so we decided to go out to eat (TGIF Friday’s)—excellent food by the way.
I think it was around 10ish when we got into the car to head home. Much like that trip there—not much exciting, basically listened to music and talked. On the way back to Greenville we listened to some Motley Crue and Liz turned on the radio to a country station…..
If you’re up north, closer to Fort Wayne, I suggest listening to 98.9, The Bear—great station! We listened to Nirvana’s song, “In Bloom,” part of a Mudvayne song (I’m not really a big fan of them), and I was able to catch the song, “Lit up,” by Buck Cherry. On the way back to my house, I listened to a variety of punk music, such as Rancid, NOFX, Pennywise, and Bad Religion…and I finished the night with the classic song, “My Generation” by The Who. By the way, Green Day did a pretty good job covering that song on their Kerplunk album.
“till next time,
Phil

Okay, maybe it’s not easy, but it’s definitely easier for me since I decided to take this summer off from school. Life is too short, so when I have the chance to take a break and relax, I’m on it! I think it’s important to have fun when you can—relieve yourself from all the stress in the world…nevertheless, I also think it’s very important to maintain whatever responsibilities there may be.
This summer I plan on having quite a bit of fun. Probably the biggest thing would be taking a trip to Toledo, OH and then to Cleveland and visit the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame. I’ve been to the museum a few years ago when they had the John Lennon exhibit. Man, if you’re a Beatle’s fan you would have loved it. It was so awesome to see some of his guitars, outfits, paintings and drawings he did, plus some of his original lyrics he wrote! I’m really excited to go back, and today the Doors exhibit opens!! Woot, woot! It will be open until October 7th, and I’m dying to go see that! Anyways, besides the journey to Toledo and Cleveland, I plan on doing a lot of swimming at my best friend’s house, go horse back riding with my girlfriend, Liz (since we didn’t go last year), have a bonfire and possibly throw a small party. I plan on doing a lot of jamming with my band and hopefully get a half way decent demo tape recorded too. There are some books which I would like to read, so I plan on trying to read those as well this summer. Other than that, I’ll see where it takes me…I like just living my life a second at a time sometimes…it keeps life interesting!

Hey! My name is Phillip, but some people call me Phil…whatever you prefer. So what is there about me you want to know? I was born in
I’m a big music freak of all kinds except for rap, R&B, and most country. I like to listen to anything from punk, to classic rock, to blues, to reggae….I started playing the bass guitar when I was a sophomore in high school, but somewhere around my junior or senior year, I retired the bass and bought a Tama drum set. After I sold my bass and I played my drums for about four to five years, I started to miss the bass guitar. Luckily, for Christmas of 2006, I got an acoustic/electric bass which I love and can’t put down. I also have an electric guitar which I enjoy picking up and playing as well.
