What we do

The Center for Teaching & Learning (CTL) is dedicated to providing support for faculty development in teaching, service, and scholarship thus helping to improve the overall environment for faculty and students. We provide information and technologies to enable teaching professionals to pursue their own teaching and learning goals with the ultimate mission being to provide a high quality learning experience for students at Indiana University East.

Who we are


Stephine Whitehead - Center Director

Dr. Stephanie Whitehead serves as the current Director of the IU East Center for Teaching and Learning. Stephanie has been a faculty member at IU East since 2010 and earned her Ph.D. in criminal justice from Indiana University in 2011. She is a member of FACET and serves as a Quality Matters peer reviewer. She teaches courses in research methods, policing, and class, gender, race, and crime. Her pedagogical interests include student support for first generation and working class college students and the affective dynamics of teaching and learning.
 
Gretchen DeHart - Center Consultant

Gretchen DeHart is the Instructional Technology Consultant for the IU East Center for Teaching and Learning. She has worked for IU for over 5 years, and serves as a Quality Matters peer reviewer. Her pedagogical interests include active learning, new definitions of literacy, human/technology interactions, and game play as pedagogy.

Anthony has worked in higher education for more than fifteen years in a variety of roles at several institutions ranging from small, private colleges to large, public universities. He has also worked in the Labor movement, the publishing industry and for a national co-op and outdoor outfitter on both coasts of the US. He has taught university courses both online and face-to-face, as well as numerous workshops for Faculty and Staff. In addition to undergraduate degrees in Political Science, History, and Psychology, he holds a Master's degree in Curriculum Studies and is working to complete a doctoral degree in Cultural Studies and Education. When not at work, he is most likely found on a squash court or in a sea kayak on one of the Great Lakes.

Amanda is the newest member to the CTL. She is an IU East graduate from the Human Services Program. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.



Location and Hours

The Center for Teaching & Learning is located in Hayes Hall room 064.

We are open Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm. Please make an appointment whenever possible to ensure availability.
