Welcome to Education
Welcome to the Indiana University East School of Education. Our mission is to prepare teachers who are Reflective Scholars, Instructional Leaders, and Global Citizens and to serve the community and profession by promoting and facilitating best practice in education. We are committed to developing teacher leaders at the undergraduate and graduate level and to continued collaboration with K-12 colleagues.
At Indiana University East you have the opportunity to become a dually certified elementary teacher with mild intervention certification, become a secondary teacher of math, science, English or social studies, receive certification through our Alternative Routes to Certification program, attain your master’s degree, or take graduate level courses for re-certification. We also offer a 2 + 2 elementary education program and a master’s program at the Ivy Tech Community College in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
Our faculty are incredibly committed to excellence in teaching and to life long learning. They are extremely active with our area schools, provide leadership with state level organization, and engage in a variety of scholarly activities. Faculty are reflective scholars, instructional leaders and global citizens who take great pride in their work and who embrace the many challenges currently faced by education.
As a student you will benefit from faculty advising, small class sizes, extensive K-12 involvement beginning with your second year and pre-student teaching and student teaching experiences. Upon graduation, you will have access to our Beginning Teacher Mentor Program whose sole purpose is to provide support to first and second year teachers.
Our Student Education Association provides students an opportunity to engage in social action projects that make a difference for area youth.
The education of our children and youth is the most important work that we can do. At the Indiana University East School of Education we make sure that our pre-service teachers have the best educational opportunities possible. This makes it possible for our graduates to be the best beginning teachers possible.
If you have any questions about our programs please feel free to contact me or to stop by my office.
