Types of Aid

Returning Student Scholarships

IU East has long awarded scholarships to both incoming and continuing students in recognition of their academic achievement, leadership and community service.  This listing contains information intended for current IU East students, transfer students and students returning to IU East.  New, incoming freshman students are encouraged to read the listing provided about Freshman Scholarships on the Office of Admissions website.

Eligibility is based on academic merit, although some scholarships also consider financial need.  These need-based scholarships require that the student file the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) .  For information on the FAFSA and/or more detailed information on financial aid please contact the Financial Aid Office.

In order to receive a scholarship, a student must maintain at least half time enrollment, unless otherwise noted.

Tips for Applying

  • Start early!  Best success can be had with the maximum lead time.  Good grades and achievements are rewarded.
  • Make sure you use your grammar and spell check on your computer.
  • Read the instructions very carefully before you start and when you are done.  Many students in their rush to finish and go on to something else, forget to include key items.
  • Do remember to thank the donors sincerely.  Many people give money and time for scholarships out of the goodness of their heart and wish to help others.  It is very important to acknowledge this with a thank you letter or note.

Steps to Apply

  1. Log onto your student Onestart account
  2. Click on your Services Tab
  3. Click on student self service, on the left side of the page
  4. Scroll down to Financial
  5. Click IU East and IU Foundation link
  6. Choose Scholarship Application
  7. Complete steps in new window

One Application

With this application, you may apply for multiple scholarships at the same time. In some cases, you can even submit one essay for more than one scholarship.

It goes without saying that essays should observe the general rules of English.  Originality is encouraged, but observance of grammar rules is even more important.

Scholarships and Tuition at IU East

Most scholarships at IU East are credited to the student account, usually with the award amount being split between fall and spring semesters.  They are applied against the balance on the student account after registration and any remaining balance is sent to the student for use of other educational expenses like books, etc.
