Dean Clark presents at nursing institute
Karen Clark, dean of the School of Nursing, presented “The RN to BSN Educational Process: Moving Past the Perception of Jumping Through Hoops” at the Drexel University Nursing Education Institute: Educating for Change recently held in Arlington, Va on June 6.

Education faculty present paper
Judy Battraw, assistant professor of education, and Marilyn Watkins, dean of the School of Education, recently presented a paper, “Restructuring a Secondary Education Program to Meet Twenty-First Century Realities,” at the International Conference on Education sponsored by the Athens Institute for Education and Research (A.T.I.N.E.R.). The conference was held May 25-28 in Athens, Greece.

Sociology professor researches in London
Wazir Mohammed, assistant professor of sociology, conducted archival research at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. He will examine the archives of the activities of the London Missionary Society in 19th Century British Guiana until May 31 to June 12.

These activities have been facilitated through funding from the New Frontiers grant project of Indiana University and through a summer fellowship from IU East. He will use the research for his book project.

On July 25, Mohammed will deliver a lecture at the Brecht Forum in New York City on “Globalization and current land conflicts in the third world.”

Faculty appointments
Jean Harper has been promoted to associate professor of English with tenure. Roberta Roswell has been promoted to senior lecturer of mathematics.

Joanne Passet will assume the duties of dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences on August 16. Additionally, Passet has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for the Kinsey Institute for Research on Sex, Gender, and Reproduction. Her three-year term of service begins July 1.

TJ Rivard will step down as the dean on August 15 and continue with his responsibilities as professor of English. Rivard provided service as the division chair and dean for nine years.

Markus Pomper continues as the faculty coordinator for First-year Seminar. He will work directly with the school deans and the seminar instructors as well as manage the IU Diversity Grant that provides funding for the preparation and implementation of this year’s seminar.
