IU Trustees approve degree program in communications for IU East

Indiana University East is pursing the implementation of a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Studies. The degree was approved by the Indiana University Board of Trustees Friday, June 20.

The degree program must next be approved by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

Indiana Commission approves second graduate program for IU East

Friday, June 13th

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The Indiana Commission for Higher Education today approved Indiana University East’s Master of Social Work degree. The commission’s approval is the final step in the process to implement the graduate program proposal. The decision was announced during the commission’s meeting held at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

IU East announces Summer Scholars

Indiana University East has awarded six scholarships for the 2008 Summer Research Scholar Program. Undergraduate students receive $2,000 to conduct a research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor.

The first Summer Research Scholar was a single award made to a biology student, Nathan Feldman, in summer 2000. Feldman graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and is now employed in research at Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati.

Indiana University East awards students during Honors Convocation

Monday, April 21st

Several Indiana University East students were recognized on Thursday, April 17 during the Honors Day Convocation in Vivian Auditorium. Interim Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar presided over the program.

Outstanding Student Awards were given to individuals in their degree programs who displayed outstanding academic achievement at IU East. Students receiving awards are the following:

Nationally known author to visit IU East for public reading

Thursday, March 13th

Award winning author Christopher Coake will visit Indiana University East on Wednesday, March 26 for a reading at 7 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium, located in Whitewater Hall. A reception and book signing will follow the reading. The event is free and open to the public.

Divisions at IU East will become Schools

Wednesday, February 20th

Indiana University East is renaming its academic divisions beginning July 1, 2008.  Academic divisions at IU East will become the School of Business and Economics, School of Education, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and School of Natural Science and Mathematics, and School of Nursing.

New York Times Best Selling author to visit IU East

Thursday, November 1st

Jeannette Walls, author of The Glass Castle, will visit Indiana University East on Wednesday, November 28. The public is welcome to attend a free reading at 7 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium, located in Whitewater Hall.

L.I.N.C.

Last fall, Indiana University East began a learning community pilot program intended to better engage and retain newly enrolled first year students. Learning in Communities (LINC) exceeded expectations and will expand to include five learning communities for the fall 2007 semester. First year students enrolling for the fall are encouraged to join LINC.
