Nominations pour in for mascot name; nominations end December 31

Indiana University East has received over 125 different suggestions for a new mascot but is encouraging the public to continue submitting their ideas. The online suggestion box for the mascot closes December 31, 2007.

English professor receives residency to Yaddo, an exclusive artists’ community

Indiana University East assistant professor of English, Jean Harper, has received a springtime residency to Yaddo. The artists’ community is located in Saratoga Springs, New York and offers a sanctuary for creative and professional artists.

IU East faculty member examines role, value of community service at Indiana Colleges

The public is supportive of service-learning courses for Hoosier college students according to a recently published report by Indiana Campus Compact. The report was written by Ange Cooksey, an Indiana University East humanities lecturer, for the ICC and shows the support Indiana institutions for higher education have from the public in service learning opportunities for their students.

IU East earns prestigious CASE V awards

Indiana University East received two awards from The Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V during its annual conference in Chicago. On December 11, IU East received the Gold Award and the Silver Award for the campus’ work on the Campaign for Community in 2005-2006. The successful $2.1 million campaign supported nursing and science laboratories, provided scholarships, established an Entrepreneurship Center, and created The Gallery in Whitewater Hall, among other achievements.

Richmond resident receives IU Alumni Association President’s Award

Indiana University East alum Greg Chamness will receive the Indiana University Alumni Association President’s Award this Friday at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis. Chamness is one of eight IU alumni being honored with the award in recognition of their volunteer service to IU and to their communities.

Romanian economic educators to study economics in Richmond, Wayne County

Indiana University East Entrepreneurship Center will host economic educators from Romania today throughDecember 8. The National Council on Economic Education approved a proposal by Tim Scales, Entrepreneurship Center director, and director of the Center for Economic Education to participate as a host for the Study Tour on Economic Education in the United States.
