Nasser Paydar chosen as IU East chancellor

Oct. 31, 2008

RICHMOND, Ind. — Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie today (Oct. 31) announced the appointment of Nasser H. Paydar as chancellor of Indiana University East, effective Jan. 1, 2009, subject to the approval of the IU Board of Trustees at their December meeting.

IU East pursuing plans for Health and Wellness Center

Indiana University has included a $17.5 million request for a Health and Wellness Center on the campus of Indiana University East in its 2009-11 capital appropriations request that will be submitted to the General Assembly later this year. The capital appropriations request has been approved by the IU Board of Trustees.

Art competition’s Top Ten to be announced November 5

Indiana University East is announcing the inclusions of the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition during a reception for the artists. James Yood, an adjunct full professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the department of Art History, Theory and Criticism, publicly juried the competition held on October 4 at IU East.

IU East introduces new faculty

Indiana University East has several new faculty members on staff this fall.

In October 2007, the university launched its largest national search for faculty to join the campus. As a result there are 11 new full-time faculty members that have joined IU East and who excel in teaching and scholarly activity. The additional faculty will support the campus’ mission as a comprehensive bachelor’s and master’s degree institution.

Lingle Scholar Award presented to two IU East freshman students

Heather Wheatley of Hagerstown and Ryan Doughty of Richmond have been chosen as the 2008 Lingle Scholars. The Honors Program scholarship award will continue throughout their pursuit of a four-year degree at Indiana University East.

Civil engagement project asks “What is Democracy?”

The ArtsWeek project from Indiana University Bloomington “Writing on the Wall” is at IU East now through Friday, October 24. The project theme is Politics in the Arts and asks viewers “What is Democracy?” and “What does Democracy Look Like?” The project was initiated by Joe LaMantia, a Bloomington artist and art educator who first conceived of the graffiti project as part of IU’s Moveable Feast of the Arts for 2008-2009.

Singing Hoosiers to perform at IU East

The Indiana University East Alumni Association will host Indiana University’s the Singing Hoosiers at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 17. The Singing Hoosiers will perform in Vivian Auditorium, located in Whitewater Hall. The event kicks off a new series in which the IU East Alumni Association will bring Indiana University entertainment to campus each semester.

School of Nursing students gain hands-on knowledge with hospital move

Several Indiana University East School of Nursing students were able to put practice into experience as Reid Hospital & Health Care Services moved to its new hospital. The hospital made the move on Wednesday, September 10. IU East and the new Reid have neighboring campuses on Chester Boulevard and Reid Parkway in Richmond, Ind.

Indiana University invites students to “Celebrate IU” through student video contest on YouTube

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University is asking students from all eight IU campuses to share their university spirit with the world through a student video contest on the popular video sharing Web site YouTube.

The contest, now in its second year, is part of the university’s “Celebrate IU” festivities, a month of special events beginning Oct. 1 that this year will include IU President Michael McRobbie’s first State of the University address, world-class performances, art exhibits and building dedications.
