The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised its Pandemic Alert Level to 5 due to the swine/bird/human flu virus. Today, Chancellor Nasser Paydar reassured the faculty, staff and students that the university is working closely with officials in the city of Richmond, Wayne County, Ivy Tech Community College and Reid Hospital & Health Care Services.

Keith N. Fargo is the recipient of the Indiana University East 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award. Fargo will receive the honorary award during the IU East commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15. The ceremony is being held at the Richmond High School Tiernan Center. He will lead the graduating class during the alumni induction ceremony.

Nearly 300 degrees will be conferred at the Indiana University East Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 15. Commencement begins at 6 p.m. in the Tiernan Center at Richmond High School.

IU President Michael A. McRobbie and IU East Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar will preside and address the 297 graduates eligible to receive degrees during the ceremony. The figures include degree recipients from December 2008 and candidates for May, June and August 2009.

The TRACES Center for History and Culture traveling exhibit will make a stop at Indiana University East from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 8. The exhibit will be located on the circle drive next to Whitewater Hall.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie today directed that all IU campuses begin taking precautions to prevent or limit the outbreak of swine flu among students, faculty or staff.

Business dean chairs conference session
David W. Frantz, dean of the School of Business, served as chair of a session on “Critical Incidents in Business Ethics,” and as a discussant in a session on “Business Cases in Business Development” at the Society for Case Research at the International MBAA conference held in Chicago from March 18-20.

Sherry Rankin, clinical assistant professor of nursing at Indiana University East, has been selected receive the 2009 Faculty Colloquium on Excellence in Teaching Award. As an award recipient, Rankin joins a distinguished group of faculty selected among IU and its regional campuses.
