IU East announces Whitewater Valley Art Competition awards

Indiana University East announced the inclusions for exhibit of the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition during an artists’ reception held October 28. The 31st Annual Whitewater Art Competition was held October 3 at IU East.

Event brings focus on community involvement

Indiana University East will host a presentation by Earlham College alumnus Jim Cason, association secretary for Campaign for Friends Committee for National Legislation (FCNL). The event includes the presentation and dialogue on FCNL’s work to secure Senate ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and other issues.

Economic report analyzes strengths, weaknesses for the Richmond area

Indiana University East and the Wayne County Foundation have partnered with the Indiana Business Research Center (IBRC) at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business to compile a report on community and economic benchmarks, which has just been completed and is now being released. The report compares the Richmond area to both a national and a statewide set of peers on a wide range of indicators, ranging from per capita personal income, to industry concentrations to area demographics.

Mathematics professor invited to present at conference
Mort Seddighin, professor of mathematics, has been invited to present a talk during the 2009 Midwest Optimization Conference on Saturday, October 17, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
The presentation is “Some Techniques of Matrix Optimization.” Seddighin is using a lemma, which he discovered, to analytically solve the “Distribution of Search Effort” problem. This problem, which is among famous research allocation problems in operations research, has applications in the military.

Danielson Learning Center celebrates 10-year anniversary

Indiana University East is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Danielson Learning Center in New Castle, Ind. with an open house from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 18. The center opened in 1999.

The Environmental Club at Indiana University East is sponsoring a Sustainable Living Fair on Tuesday, October 20, from 2-8 p.m. in the Whitewater Hall Community Room. The fair will include discussions, movies, lobby displays, and giveaways.

Nursing lecturer receives IU nursing award
Tonya Breymier, lecturer in nursing, has received the Karen Cobb Creative Teaching in Nursing Education Award. This award is given annually to a full-time Indiana University School of Nursing faculty member to recognize innovative and creative teaching. Recipients are recognized for the development of a creative and innovative teaching strategy that incorporates the Seven Principles of Good Education, produces documented learning outcomes, is recognized by students as contributing to their learning, and contributes to the scholarship of teaching.

MEDIA ADVISORY: IU East Tom Raper Hall Naming Ceremony

WHAT: The official naming ceremony for the Indiana University East Tom Raper Hall. The naming ceremony honors the contribution of Tom Raper, former Richmond businessman. Middlefork Hall will be renamed in recognition of Raper’s commitment of $2.17 million to support the campus. The gift is the largest in IU East’s history.
