Mathematics Professor Publishes New Theory in Paper
A new mathematical theory titled, “Slant Antieigenvalue Theory” developed by Mort Seddighin, IU East professor of mathematics, and professor Karl Gustafson of the University of Colorado-Boulder, was presented in a lengthy paper accepted for publication in the Journal of Linear Algebra and Applications. LAA is one of the top referred international journals in mathematics published by Elsevier.

IU East plans events to celebrate Native American Heritage Month

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

The Office of Multicultural Affairs will host two events in recognition of Native American Heritage Month.

The events are free and open to the public.

Flutist Bud EagleWolf will perform at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, in Vivian Auditorium. He has eight flutes that he uses in his performance. He will also talk about his music, his family, and his Native American heritage.

IU East music program to host events on Nov. 13

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

IU East will host two musicians for several events on Friday, November 13, including a world-premiere performance of a new work by Elliot Miles McKinley, assistant professor of music and informatics director of music studies, for violin and marimba. Featured musicians are Andrew Martin, musicologist and percussionist, and Minnesota violinist Ginna Watson.

IU East receives three gold, one silver CASE V awards

Indiana University East has received four awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V for excellence in fundraising, communications and marketing, and special events.

IU East’s Office of External Affairs received three gold awards (Best Practices in Fundraising and Development, Best Event on a Shoestring, and Excellence in Print Advertising) and a silver award (Best Radio PSA or Commercial Spot) in the annual Pride of Case V Awards Program.

Homecoming 2009 begins with Monday Madness

Indiana University East has a feeling it’s going to be a good night as the campus celebrates Homecoming 2009 the week of November 9-14.

This year’s theme, “I Gotta Feeling,” is based on the popular song by the Black Eyed Peas.

IU East gives out $7.68 million in scholarships to high school guidance counselors

Indiana University East distributed $7.68 million in scholarships today (November 5) to area high school guidance counselors from Indiana and Ohio during its annual Counselors’ Breakfast.

“It is our responsibility to lead the region as the premier four-year and master’s public institution in eastern Indiana and western Ohio,” said Chancellor Nasser Paydar. “It is a pleasure to work with these counselors who share our vision to increase the educational attainment in our region. Together, we are investing in the future of individual students and our communities.”

Swamp Gravy provides lessons in diversity, community

Indiana University East is bringing the production Swamp Gravy to Vivian Auditorium on November 7, 2009. The play, the official folk play of the state of Georgia, is a collection of personal stories from the community shared on stage.

On track for more growth: IU East to add track and field

They’re on their mark. They’re set. And in the spring of 2011, the Indiana University East track and field program will be a go.

IU East has announced it will add a varsity outdoor track and field program starting with the 2010-11 school year. The Indiana University East Faculty Senate during its Nov. 3 meeting approved a resolution to add a track and field program.

Scholarship luncheon pays tribute to donors, features nationally recognized speaker

Indiana University East is hosting its 2009 Scholarship Luncheon to honor those who have donated to support scholarships at IU East and to recognize the recipients. The scholarship luncheon will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Forest Hills Country Club, 2169 S. 23rd St. in Richmond.
