Grant will help fund IU East literacy project for K-12 students

The Indiana University East Campus Library and the School of Education have received a grant that will help provide literacy kits to Wayne County students in grades K-12.

The $2,250 Indiana Campus Compact Grant is funding the Connections Discovery II service-learning project. The project provides thematic learning kits used to engage and enrich literacy activities between IU East School of Education students and K-12 students. The project will serve at least four schools in Wayne County.

IU East provides scholarships during annual Counselors’ Breakfast

Indiana University East distributed scholarships to area high school guidance counselors from Indiana and Ohio during its annual Counselors’ Breakfast held November 4.

“It is our responsibility to lead the region as the premier baccalaureate and master’s public institution in eastern Indiana and western Ohio,” said Chancellor Nasser Paydar. “It is a pleasure to work with these counselors who share our vision to increase the educational attainment in our region. Together, we are investing in the future of individual students and our communities.”

Indiana University East will collect items for the Chester Heights Building B residents who lost their homes to a fire on October 27. Anyone interested in donating gift cards, clothing, toiletries, or other household necessities, may drop-off items at upcoming events.

Scholarship luncheon thanks donors for investing in students

Indiana University East is hosting its 2010 Scholarship Luncheon to pay tribute to those who have donated to numerous IU East scholarships. The Invest in People luncheon will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at Forest Hills Country Club.

School of Natural Science and Mathematics adding human biology, biochemistry degrees

The Indiana University East School of Natural Science and Mathematics is seeking approval from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education for two new degree programs.

The Bachelor of Science in Human Life Science and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry degree programs received prior approval from the Indiana University Board of Trustees during its October 1 meeting. Both degrees could begin in fall 2011 pending approval from the commission.

IU East announces Whitewater Valley Art Competition entrants to exhibit

Indiana University East is announcing the inclusions of the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition during a reception for the artists. The 32nd Annual Whitewater Art Competition was held Saturday, October 2, at IU East. This year’s competition was juried by John McNaughton, a nationally acclaimed 20th century artist, and was sponsored by the Wayne County Foundation.
