Indiana University East is accepting art entries September 23-27 for the 2013 Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition (WVAAC). The competition will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, in Whitewater Hall. Prior to the judging, there will be a juror presentation at 11:30 a.m. in Tom Raper Hall, room 124.
The IU East Center for Leadership Development is hosting a Management Sampler Series workshop on Recognition and Appreciation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17. The workshop will be held in the Community Room, located in Whitewater Hall.
The Indiana University East Center for Economic Education welcomes students to participate in the stock market simulation contest beginning Monday, September 30. The Center for Economic Education is a part of the IU East School of Business and Economics.
A record-breaking 4,456 students are enrolled for classes this fall at Indiana University East, marking the university’s 17th consecutive term of enrollment growth. Since fall 2007, IU East’s headcount enrollment has grown 96.6 percent.
Fredricka Joyner, director of the IU East Center for Leadership Development said, “We are very excited to partner with the United Way of Whitewater Valley for this year’s program. The program will build the capacity of individuals who are making a difference in the not-for-profit arena. This is a wonderful collaboration,” Joyner said. “Working together we can offer locally the kind of development that most individuals in the not-for-profit sector never have the opportunity to attend.”
Increase marks 16th straight term of growth
Summer enrollment at Indiana University East has increased relative to the same time last year. IU East enrolled 1,749 students for summer 2013, an increase of 8 percent compared to a 1,620 headcount in summer 2012. Credit hours increased 2.6 percent from last summer. During the two summer sessions held this year, students completed 10,625 credit hours compared to 10,359 in 2012.
Indiana University East and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) agreed August 13 that the university is the primary provider for baccalaureate online degree completion programs for WTA players. The agreement was made official with a public signing at the Western & Southern Open tournament at the Lindner Family Tennis Center held in Mason, Ohio just north of Cincinnati.
Indiana University East is nearly to its goal of raising $1.7 million philanthropically for the $4.7 million Student Events Center, a multi-purpose addition to Springwood Hall. IU East has committed $3 million to the project from savings and efficiencies created over the past few years.
Indiana University East will celebrate the second year of the “One Book, Many Voices” project when classes begin in August 2013. The project mission is to foster a campus and community discussion about themes and ideas inspired by a common text in an effort to develop camaraderie, inform knowledge, and inspire action towards positive civic engagement and improvement.
Indiana University East awarded five scholarships for the 2013 Summer Research Scholar Program. Undergraduate students receive $2,000 to conduct a research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor.
Funding for the program is provided by the Indiana University Office of the Vice Provost for Research and is matched by funds from IU East. The competitive program has expanded from the first single award given to now include up to six students each summer.
