Indiana University East students are preparing to leave for the Dominican Republic this week to construct and distribute ceramic water filters for families in need of clean drinking water. Eight students will travel to the Dominican Republic November 20-25 as part of an online service-learning course at IU East.
Indiana University East honored five individuals for their service to the university and within the community during the Chancellor’s Medallion Dinner held November 14 at Forest Hills Country Club. The Chancellor’s Medallion Dinner is one of many events scheduled during IU East’s 2014 Homecoming Week, November 10-15.
Students have been creating unique ceramic bowls by the dozens in the studio at Indiana University East.
Hour by hour, over 200 pottery pieces have been thrown on the pottery wheel, fired, glazed and fired again.
Indiana University and Indiana University East today broke ground on the campus’ fifth building, a Student Activities and Events Center that is expected for completion in 2016.
The Students Activities and Events Center Groundbreaking ceremony was hosted by the IU Board of Trustees, IU President Michael McRobbie and IU East Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe. Also during the ceremony, remarks were provided by Angela Dickman, chair of the IU East Board of Advisors, and IU East Student Government Association President Emily O’Brien. Dickman was joined at the podium by Felicia Quigg, both served as co-chairs of the Bold Aspirations Campaign Committee along with Bill Quigg and Daniel Dickman.
Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe, Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Amy Oler Holthouse, and Kelsey Wolfe Davis, IU East senior and member of the Student Government Association (SGA), provided remarks during the ceremony.
Indiana University East will honor veterans the week of November 10 with several events and activities.
The Student Veterans Organization (SVO) at IU East will have a ceremony to honor veterans with a special reading and blessing. Anyone planning to attend the ceremony, should be in front of Whitewater Hall before 1:30 p.m. for the program and for the Moment of Silence. Specialist Ben Adams, a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and IU East student, will play “Taps” near Whitewater Hall.
Indiana University East is announcing the inclusions of the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition during a reception for the artists. The 36th Annual Whitewater Art Competition was held October 18 at IU East. This year’s competition was juried by David Klamen, the Chancellor’s Professor of Fine Arts at Indiana University Northwest and prominent Chicago artist.
Area business leaders and the community are invited to attend the IU Business Outlook Tour from 7-9 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, at Indiana University East in Whitewater Hall. The IU Business Outlook Tour is presented by the IU East Alumni Association and the IU East School of Business and Economics.
Indiana University East will host “Homecoming 2014: This is How We Do It” November 10-15. Alumni, friends and the campus community are invited to participate in the activities and events throughout the week. Combining the strength of their individual artwork into exhibitions of exceptional depth, 30 Indiana Artisans have partnered on Indiana Artisan: Paintings and Drawings. The statewide series continues at IU East’s Room 912, located at 912 E. Main Street in Richmond, Ind., now through Dec. 19. IU East and six of the artists will host a reception at the gallery Fri., Nov. 7, from 6–8 p.m.
