Singing Hoosiers to perform at IU East

The Indiana University East Alumni Association will host Indiana University’s the Singing Hoosiers at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 17. The Singing Hoosiers will perform in Vivian Auditorium, located in Whitewater Hall. The event kicks off a new series in which the IU East Alumni Association will bring Indiana University entertainment to campus each semester.

A nationally-known concert show choir, the Singing Hoosiers feature collegiate performers from the world-renowned Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, as well as students with a variety of other majors. They perform American popular music, jazz, and Broadway favorites with dazzling choreography, energy and style.

Throughout its history the choir has appeared with legendary entertainers such as Bob Hope, Alan Sherman, Red Buttons, Tony Bennett, Duke Ellington, and Hoagy Charmichael. They have performed with opera legend Sylvia McNair and with several professional symphony orchestras, including the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, Evansville Philharmonic, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, and the Cincinnati Pops. 

The Singing Hoosiers music director is Michael Schwartzkopf. He teaches conducting and choral music education courses and conducts musical theater productions for the Jacobs School of Music and the Theater Department.

The cost is $8 per person and for Alumni Association members, the cost is $5. Tickets are available in advance by calling the Office of Alumni Relations at (765) 973-8316 or may be purchased at the door. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the IU East Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.
