Record number of high school graduates apply to IU East in 2007
Credit hours taught for the fall 2007 semester at Indiana University East have increased 3.9 percent compared to the same period last year, according to unofficial enrollment figures. The number of students enrolled also increased by a full percentage point.
The credit hour increase at IU East for fall 2007 is the largest among all Indiana University campuses and reverses the downward slide of the past few semesters. Enrollment figures are not official until approved by the President of Indiana University.
The increase in enrollment is due primarily to an increase in new-to-campus students, particularly freshmen. This growth has been realized at the same time that the average SAT/ACT college entrance scores and high school grade point averages of new students, and the percentages of new students in the top 10% and 25% of their high school class, have increased.
“The number of high school students who graduated in June 2007 in this fall’s IU East freshmen class has increased dramatically from last fall—over 25% more this fall,” says IU East Chancellor Nasser Paydar. “This is heartening because it indicates that the message that IU East is now a full-fledged bachelor’s and master’s degree institution is being heard.” Forty percent more students who have graduated from Richmond High School make up this fall’s class, and the number of new students from Ohio has increased by 20%.
