Entries for WVACC begin Monday

Indiana University East will accept art entries beginning Monday, September 24 for the 2007 Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition.

The competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 6 in Whitewater Hall. The top 10 entries will receive a monetary award.

Each year 300 to 400 pieces of art are entered for the competition. Previous entries have included works from high schools and universities, art organizations and centers or independent artists. Artists are from locations within a 300-mile radius of Richmond, Ind.

Entries for the competition may include drawings, paintings, mixed media, photography, printmaking, computer graphics and relief sculpture. Entries may be hand-delivered to Whitewater Hall, The Gallery on the IU East campus between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday, September 24 through Friday, September 28. Entries will be gathered from regional pick-up points throughout the week. Entries will not be accepted after October 3. A list of the pick-up sites and days can be found on the entry form.

Fees are $15 for one entry or $25 for two entries, with a limit of two entries per artist.

Accepted entries will be on exhibit in The Gallery from October 29 to December 21.

This year the competition will be juried by David Russick, curator of Academic Initiatives at Yale University Art Gallery. Following the judging, there will be a presentation by Russick at 1:30 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium located in Whitewater Hall.
