Indiana University East is inviting area high school students and anyone who may be interested in exploring nursing as a career, to visit the IU East campus for a special Nursing Campus Day on Thursday, October 25.

The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in the Community Room of Whitewater Hall. The event concludes at noon.

Throughout the morning, potential students interested in nursing as a career will have the opportunity to meet with IU East staff, nursing faculty, and currently enrolled nursing students. Attendees will discover what it means to be a nurse as well as learn about recommended high school academic preparation and nursing licensure. Participants will receive information on the nursing programs and resources offered at the IU East campus. A light lunch will be provided.

Dean of Nursing Karen Clark said the event is a way for high school students and anyone in the community interested in becoming a nurse to explore this exciting career option. “We have a nursing shortage across the country and it’s only going to get worse,” Clark said. “We want high school students to explore nursing as a viable career option in a fun and meaningful way.”

IU East students enrolled in the nursing program will provide a tour of the campus for those attending the visitation event. Separate tours for parents and counselors will also be available.

The IU School of Nursing on the IU East campus offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Program application deadlines are March 1.

The event is free. Reservations for attendance should be made through the Office of Admissions by October 22.
