Indiana University East will host Steel Magnolia in concert at 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 22.

General admission tickets are on sale now. Tickets cost $15 each and may be purchased in the Office of Campus Life, located in Springwood Hall room 107. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. You must be 18 years old in order to purchase a ticket.

The outdoor concert will be behind Hayes Hall and is lawn seating only. For safety, coolers and backpacks will not be allowed through the gate. The gates will open at 7 p.m. with the concert starting at 8 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Office of Campus Life.

Director of Campus Life Rebeckah Hester said students on the Student Activity Advisory Team initially suggested the concert. The discussion led to a group vote on which band to bring and eventual invitation to Steel Magnolia.

“This will be one of IU East’s biggest events in the campus’ history. Our beautiful campus provides the perfect venue for an outdoor concert. We’re proud to offer this marquee event as one of the many ways in which IU East is celebrating its 40th anniversary with the students and campus community,” Hester said.

Steel Magnolia is the country-music duo Joshua Scott Jones and Meghan Linsey, winners of CMT’s “Can You Duet?” in 2009. Now on the Big Machine Records label, their self-titled debut album, Steel Magnolia, includes songs “Keep on Lovin’ You” and “Ooh La La.”  “Keep on Lovin’ You” by country soul powerhouse Chris Stapleton, has gained notoriety as the highest charting debut single by a co-ed duo in Billboard history.

Steel Magnolia is traveling this year with Reba McEntire’s “All the Women I Am” tour as well as playing universities and colleges, state fairs, theaters, and festivals across the United States. In 2010, Steel Magnolia toured with Brad Paisley on his “H20 Tour.” They have played at the Grand Ole Opry and have received the Vocal Duo of the Year at the CMA Awards.
