Enactus team at IU East won league regional competition

The IU East Enactus team won a regional championship in its league during the 2014 Enactus United States National Exposition held March 31-April 3 in Cincinnati. The team advanced to the national competition held the same week in Cincinnati and placed in the top 100 schools.Enactus2014

The team includes Tyler Fangman, Cold Spring, Ky., Alex Houck, Hagerstown, Ind., Drew Houck, Portland, Ind., Dan Printz, Arcanum, Ohio, Nick Miller, Lynn, Ind., Derrick Batta, Brookville, Ind., Hannah Clawson, Hagerstown, Ind., Clint Sheppard, Eaton, Ohio, Megan Winn, Eaton, Ohio, Bryan Schlatter, Indianapolis, Ind., and Mitchell Cain, Rushville, Ind. Tim Scales, senior lecturer and director of the Centers for Entrepreneurship and Economic Education, is the advisor.

The team has been working throughout the year on various projects related to teaching financial literacy concepts and entrepreneurship. Enactus members featured a variety of projects at the competition including “Stock Market,” “Shark-Bait,” “Sam’s Step Up for Small Business,” and “Build a Bank.”

Students also worked on a book project to develop a series of books to teach entrepreneurship, economics, mathematics and financial literacy and to help assist individuals with business plans. The team also worked on a YouTube project with local small business owners to create a video and social media plan to reach potential customers.
