IU East Spirit of Philanthropy Week provides students with events focused on philanthropy

Indiana University East will celebrate Spirit of Philanthropy week October 20-25.spirit

Beginning Monday, students can participate in a fun-filled week centered on philanthropy beginning with the Service Learning Fair of Local Non-Profits from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Graf Center. Students should also watch Facebook and Twitter to learn about the spontaneous events Tuesday through Thursday.

Also Monday night, the Student Government Association (SGA) is collecting canned goods for the Campus Food Pantry during the Red Wolves volleyball match vs. IU Northwest at Seton Catholic High School, beginning at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, students can stop by the “Thank a Donor” table in Whitewater Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The table will be moved to Tom Raper Hall from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday it will be available in Hayes Hall from 1-3 p.m.

The Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, at Forest Hills Country Club, located at 2169 South 23rd Street in Richmond. The cost is $50 per ticket.

The keynote speaker is Peter Kageyama, author of For the Love of Cities: The Love Affair Between People and Their Places. Kageyama’s visit to Richmond is the featured event of IU East’s “One Book, Many Voices” project.

During the luncheon, IU East will recognize First Bank Richmond and West End Bank with the Community Spirit of Philanthropy Award and Frances Yates, director of the Campus Library, with the Campus Spirit of Philanthropy award. Wetzel Family Auto Cruise will receive the Rufus Award in recognition of their support for the athletics program.

Tickets are available for Kageyama’s lecture and book signing at IU East on Tuesday, October 21. The event is free and open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available in the Office of the Bursar, located in Whitewater Hall.

Friday is Make a Difference Day in the Depot. Student volunteers can help with Make a Difference Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Students can sign up to volunteer in the Office of External Affairs, located in Springwood Hall room 103.
