Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe, Wayne County Area Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Amy Oler Holthouse, and Kelsey Wolfe Davis, IU East senior and member of the Student Government Association (SGA), provided remarks during the ceremony.

“This is a very exciting day at IU East as we kick off the start of this year’s Homecoming week and celebrate the completion of the Quad renovation,” Chancellor Cruz-Uribe said. “Many individuals at IU East and Indiana University worked hard on the design to improve this space. The Quad connects our campus and it will provide many opportunities for our students and community to hold events and activities.”

Wolfe Davis said during her time at IU East, she has seen the campus enrollment continue to grow as well as the continued enhancement of the student experience.

“I have made connections and have developed relationships with people that will last a lifetime. With the renovations that have been done to the Quad, it now is not only more appealing to the eye, but it also will serve as a place for students, faculty and staff to come together and connect with one another and create some of those same relationships that I have been lucky enough to have,” Wolfe Davis said.

During the ceremony, IU East recognized members of the men’s and women’s cross country team in support of its season and championship participation. IU East will send two Red Wolves to the national championship. Seth Prince and Dylan Cope will travel to the NAIA Cross Country National Championships at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan., on November 22. IU East will be represented at the national meet for the fifth time in the program’s seven seasons.

The renovation for the quad was designed to provide a more amiable space for campus gatherings and events. This includes improved drainage in the center of campus; added landscaping with a rain garden and new perimeter trees, lit pergola, and replacement of inner sidewalks. Several sculpture pads were installed for future artwork.

Another addition to the quad area was the replacement of the bridge from the Tom Raper Hall parking lot, and an emergency call box was installed as part of the project.

Carroll Electric Inc. and Rinehart landscaping of Richmond, Ind. worked on the project.
