Indiana University East has received four awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District V for excellence in fundraising, communications and marketing, and special events.

IU East’s Office of External Affairs received three gold awards (Best Practices in Fundraising and Development, Best Event on a Shoestring, and Excellence in Print Advertising) and a silver award (Best Radio PSA or Commercial Spot) in the annual Pride of Case V Awards Program.

“We are very excited to receive these prestigious awards,” said Rob Zinkan, executive director for External Affairs. “We have an outstanding team of professionals who do great work to advance the mission of IU East by enhancing the campus’ reputation, relationships, and resources.”

IU East will receive its awards at the closing luncheon of the 2009 CASE V Conference on December 15 in Chicago. CASE District V includes over 400 member institutions from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The Pride of CASE V Awards presented to IU East in 2009 include:

• Gold Award for Best Practices in Fundraising and Development, 2,999 FTE or fewer – IU East Campus Campaign 2009: “Seeing the Impact”

IU East’s 2009 Faculty/Staff Campus Campaign achieved unprecedented success, with 95 percent of faculty and staff making a donation to the campus for the campaign. “The Campus Campaign provides an opportunity for all of us to come together to show our pride in IU East and show the importance of investing in the future of our growing campus,” said Brindy Roosa, director of Gift Development. “The record-setting level of participation achieved this year is unheard of at other universities.”

• Gold Award for Best Event on a Shoestring – Celebration of Campus and Community

IU East hosted a Celebration of Campus and Community on June 16, 2009, in place of a traditional chancellor installation ceremony.  Chancellor Nasser Paydar decided to forgo his installation and instead designate those funds for a campus beautification initiative. The June 16th event was an outdoor reception with members of the campus and community, along with Indiana University President Michael McRobbie and members of the Board of Trustees, to kick off the initiative and invite the community to show its support.

• Gold Award for Excellence in Print Advertising – Richmond High School Register: Social Media Campaign

IU East ran a series of advertisements in Richmond High School’s newspaper, The Register, promoting the university’s various social media channels, including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Flickr. “With 88 percent of our new freshmen coming directly from high school, it’s increasingly important for us to take advantage of the opportunities that social media provides to connect with high school students,” said John Dalton, director of Communications and Marketing. The newspaper advertisements are available online at iue.edu/marketing/portfolio.

• Silver Award for Best Radio PSA or Commercial Spot – “IU – focused on YOU.”

IU East’s 60-second commercial describes the campus as being the best of both worlds – with the resources and recognition of Indiana University combined with the personal attention and benefits of a small-college setting.
