IU East hires Admissions Assistant Director
Indiana University East recently appointed Kara Newman as the assistant director in the Office of Admissions. Her official start date was December 17, 2007.

Newman will recruit students to enroll at IU East, provide assistance to incoming students during the admissions process, lead campus tours and plan events for the Office of Admissions. She will also work with the Admission Ambassadors, a group of students that shares their IU East experience and pride with potential students.

Prior to her appointment at IU East, Newman was a building technology specialist for the Union County College Corner Joint School District in Liberty, Ind. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2007.

Political science professor invited to present paper
Paul Kriese, associate professor of political science at Indiana University East, has been invited to present his abstract with co-writer Randall Osborne Professor of Psychology at Texas State University-San Marcos during the Scientific Committee of the International Association for Cross Cultural Psychology Bremen Congress.

The Crossing Borders conference will be held July 27-31, 2008 in Bremen, Germany.

The presentation, “Cross-Cultural Values: Explorations into Foundations for Civic-Engagement,” is on the politics and psychology class they co-teach online each year.

Nursing faculty present during leadership conference
Karen Clark, dean of the Indiana University East School of Nursing, and Curtis Bow, IU East lecturer in nursing, presented a poster at the National League for Nursing’s Faculty Leadership Conference. The conference was held January 12-13 in Orlando, Fla.

“Collaboration of Community Resources in Nursing Student Recruitment: A Triology of Stakeholders,” was a presentation regarding the collaborative effort of IU East, Ivy Tech, and Reid Hospital and Health Care Services for recruitment of high school students into nursing via our Nurse Camp. The poster provided information on the application process, camp curriculum, camp highlights, student learning and evaluation.
