Joanne Passet, dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of history, will give an illustrated presentation and share stories about her experiences in Vietnam and her travels in Cambodia and China. The presentation will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, in the Whitewater Hall Community Room.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

Passet received a J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship award for the 2008-09 academic year. Passet used the scholarship to travel to Nha Trang University in Vietnam, where she was based from January to June. While there she traveled extensively in Vietnam, and to Malaysia, Cambodia, and China.

Passet taught English to students at Nha Trang University, located on the coast of the South China Sea, and conducted workshops on American higher education in Nha Trang and Haiphong.  Passet, who has a Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. in library and information science from Indiana University, also served as a library consultant in Nha Trang,  Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi.

The Fulbright Program, America’s flagship international educational exchange program, is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as demonstrated leadership potential in their fields.
