IU East announces Whitewater Valley Art Competition entrants to exhibit
Friday, October 22ndIndiana University East is announcing the inclusions of the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition during a reception for the artists. The 32nd Annual Whitewater Art Competition was held Saturday, October 2, at IU East. This year’s competition was juried by John McNaughton, a nationally acclaimed 20th century artist, and was sponsored by the Wayne County Foundation.

Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition calls for entries
Thursday, September 16thIndiana University East will accept art entries September 20-September 24 for the Whitewater Valley Annual Art Competition.
The competition will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 2, in Whitewater Hall. The top ten entries will receive a monetary award.

Monday, August 9thNSM faculty collaborate to publish findings for use of phylogenic species identification
School of Natural Science and Mathematics faculty members Markus Pomper, Dale Beach and Mike Foos (emeritus); IU East B.S. in Biology graduate and former laboratory coordinator, Nickie May; and co-authors Don Ruch, from Ball State University, and Kathy Sheehan, from the University of Colorado, received notification that their paper, “Phylogeny of Pilobolaceae,” has been accepted for publication and will appear in an upcoming issue of Mycologia. This paper re-describes a family of fungi and proposes the use of phylogenic species identification to distinguish among isolates of the genus Pilobolus more accurately. This publication represents the culmination of a multi-year collaboration utilizing the laboratory facilities at IU East.
Gallery exhibit features work of painted abstract, weathered steel
Wednesday, May 26thThe upcoming exhibit in the Indiana University East art gallery will be “The Works of Mike Elsass” on display now through July 2. The Gallery exhibit features the Ohio based artist’s abstract and weathered steel paintings that represent strength, life’s elements, aging, imperfection and beauty.

Nature is inspirational force for artist, instructor
Thursday, April 29thEd Thornburg, director of the Art Gallery and lecturer of fine arts, works in close proximity to nature by recycling discarded items into art.
“Now, I’m really interested in found art. It’s yours to do something really original but you have to find it first,” Thornburg said.

IU East introduces new faculty
Thursday, September 24thIndiana University East has several new full-time faculty members on staff this fall. The additional faculty will further enhance the campus’ mission as a comprehensive bachelor’s and master’s degree institution.
“IU East continues to grow and, to accommodate the growth, has added more full-time faculty over the past two years,” says Larry Richards, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs at IU East. “We expect the trend to continue and to add even more full-time faculty positions in the years to come.”
