Five students from Indiana University East will be able to participate in the Indiana Campus Compact (ICC) Service Engagement AmeriCorps program during the upcoming 2011-2012 year. The program engages 150 Indiana college student volunteers in AmeriCorps service each year.

Fredricka Joyner, associate professor of business administration and organization behavior, is working in conjunction with the Wayne County Foundation on a professional service and civic engagement project, the Positive Place Initiative. The initiative connects and applies the expertise of an IU East faculty member with a strategic community issue in the Richmond and Wayne County region.
Ange Cooksey, humanities lecturer at Indiana University East, has received the Brian Douglas Hiltunen Award from Indiana Campus Compact. Cooksey was presented the award on Tuesday, March 25 at the 2008 Governor’s Conference on Service and Volunteerism.
The public is supportive of service-learning courses for Hoosier college students according to a recently published report by Indiana Campus Compact. The report was written by Ange Cooksey, an Indiana University East humanities lecturer, for the ICC and shows the support Indiana institutions for higher education have from the public in service learning opportunities for their students.
