Larry Richards was hired by IU East in January 2004 to serve as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the role of chief academic officer for the campus. With the addition of chief enrollment officer responsibilities in spring 2007, his title changed to Executive Vice Chancellor. He has been serving most recently as Interim Chancellor since June 2012, when Nasser Paydar left to take a position at IUPUI. He will relinquish the chancellor duties on July 1, 2013, when newly appointed Kathy Cruz-Uribe takes over as permanent Chancellor for the campus.

Larry Richards has been appointed interim chancellor of Indiana University East, university officials have announced. He will take over from Chancellor Nasser Paydar, who has led the campus since 2007 and who has taken a new leadership role at IUPUI.

Jean Harper, associate professor of English, has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship for writing (prose). The fellowship will support work on her book, Horses and Divorces.
The fellowship is designed to give writers the time and freedom to pursue their work; the creative writing fellowships are the NEA’s most direct investment in America’s artists. Harper is the only person in Indiana to receive the fellowship in literature for this year.

Indiana University East is now offering an online degree completion program for a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics.
Currently, three bachelor degree completion programs are offered online including Business Administration, Communication Studies, and English-Technical and Professional Writing.

At its June 11 meeting, the Indiana University Board of Trustees gave its approval for Indiana University East to pursue further approvals for its third master’s degree program.
The Master of Science in Management will now move on to the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association for their approvals. Upon approval of these two commissions, the new graduate degree could be offered at IU East as early as the fall 2011.
