Indiana University East first graduating cohort in the Master of Science in Management program will receive their diplomas during the 42nd Commencement Ceremony on Friday, May 10. The M.S.M program is a part of the School of Business and Economics.

Indiana University East recognized several faculty and staff with awards for their service to the university during the Honors Convocation ceremony held April 25.
Ange Cooksey, senior lecturer in humanities, is this year’s recipient of the Helen Lees Award, established in 1991. Professor Emeritus Lees passed away in 1992, but her spirit continues in this annual award to honor a full-time faculty member who has taught at least 10 semesters at IU East.

Indiana University East has appointed Neil Sabine as the Dean of the School of Natural Science and Mathematics, effective May 1, 2013. Sabine has served the campus as the interim dean since August 2011, in addition to teaching as an associate professor of biology.

The Indiana University East School of Business and Economics’ Center for Leadership Development will host its Spring Leadership Forum beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, in the Whitewater Hall Community Room. The invited speaker is Justice Loretta H. Rush and she will present “Ethics in Leadership.”

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie announced the selection of Kathryn Cruz-Uribe as the new chancellor of the IU East campus, subject to the approval of the IU Board of Trustees. Cruz-Uribe has been serving as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at California State University, Monterey Bay.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Indiana University East volleyball team was honored as the 2012-13 recipient of the NAIA’s Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Team Award for volleyball.
The team received the award during the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Banquet of Champions on Nov. 26 at the Sioux City Convention Center. The IU East Red Wolves volleyball team is competing in the NAIA Volleyball National Championship this week.

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Chancellor Charles R. Bantz has announced Nasser Paydar, chancellor of Indiana University East and professor of mechanical engineering, as IUPUI’s next executive vice chancellor effective June 15, pending approval by the Trustees of Indiana University.

Paydar was selected for the post after an extensive national search, chaired by William Blomquist, dean of the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI and professor of political science. Paydar succeeds Uday Sukhatme, who is leaving to become the provost at Pace University.

The Indiana University East Center for Leadership Development will receive a grant from the Indiana University Women’s Philanthropy Council to establish a new Academy for Cultivating Talent. The IU Women’s Philanthropy Council announced the award recipients on March 6.
