Mindful Explorations presents IU East Music Research Day on Wednesday, November 3, in Springwood Hall Room 217. The day features four scholars in the fields of music theory and musicology and their paper presentations.
RICHMOND, Ind. – Seven Indiana University East students studied abroad throughout Europe as part of a broad-based culture and non-linear music history and composition courses. The students visited two main city epicenters of music – Venice and Vienna – while they traveled. Students left for Europe on May 24 and returned June 7.
The public is invited to attend an evening of musical entertainment featuring the works of Hoagy Carmichael and Cole Porter at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, in the Lingle Auditorium at Reid Hospital & Health Care Services.
Indiana University East will host master pianist Tamara Karetkina Orlovsky at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 9, in Vivian Auditorium, located in Whitewater Hall. Orlovsky is a former professor of piano at the University of Indianapolis.
IU East will host two musicians for several events on Friday, November 13, including a world-premiere performance of a new work by Elliot Miles McKinley, assistant professor of music and informatics director of music studies, for violin and marimba. Featured musicians are Andrew Martin, musicologist and percussionist, and Minnesota violinist Ginna Watson.
Elliott Miles McKinley is passionate about what he does.
McKinley, an assistant professor of music at Indiana University East, has been instrumental in developing the music major and minor offered at the university since fall 2008. Students can major in music through the Bachelor of Arts in Humanities or minor in music performance, music composition and electronic composition or music theory.
IU East will sponsor two musical events this weekend on campus and in the Richmond community.
IU East guitar instructor, David Taulbee, will have a faculty recital at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 17. This event is free and open to the public.

IU East Spring Lecture Series
The Spring Faculty Lecture Series continues with Julien Simon, assistant professor of Spanish and French, and his presentation, “An Introduction to Cognitive Literary Studies.” The lecture is at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3 in Whitewater Hall, room 132.
Music recitals bring holidays, Broadway to Vivian Auditorium
The public is invited to attend a duo recital on Thursday, December 4 featuring IU East students Danielle Phelps and Ryan Shaw. The performance will be held at 7 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium. It is free and open to the public.
