IU East interim leader Richards makes career of mixing scholarship with administrative assignments

Larry Richards was hired by IU East in January 2004 to serve as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in the role of chief academic officer for the campus. With the addition of chief enrollment officer responsibilities in spring 2007, his title changed to Executive Vice Chancellor. He has been serving most recently as Interim Chancellor since June 2012, when Nasser Paydar left to take a position at IUPUI. He will relinquish the chancellor duties on July 1, 2013, when newly appointed Kathy Cruz-Uribe takes over as permanent Chancellor for the campus.

Faculty and staff excellence awards presented at Honors Convocation

Indiana University East recognized several faculty and staff with awards for their service to the university during the Honors Convocation ceremony held April 25.

Ange Cooksey, senior lecturer in humanities, is this year’s recipient of the Helen Lees Award, established in 1991. Professor Emeritus Lees passed away in 1992, but her spirit continues in this annual award to honor a full-time faculty member who has taught at least 10 semesters at IU East.

IU East welcomes new faculty to the School of Education

Indiana University East is pleased to welcome its newest faculty in the School of Education to further enhance the campus’ mission as a comprehensive bachelor’s and master’s degree institution. Two new faculty joined the school at the start of the fall 2012 semester.

IU East 2012 Summer Research Scholars

Tuesday, June 26th

Indiana University East awarded six scholarships for the 2012 Summer Research Scholar Program. Undergraduate students receive $2,000 to conduct a research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor.

Funding for the program is provided by the Indiana University Office of the Vice Provost for Research and is matched by funds from IU East. The competitive program has expanded from the first single award given to now include up to six students each summer.

Earlham College and IU East partner to receive National Science Foundation grant and conduct soil research

Thursday, April 12th

Earlham College and Indiana University East have received a $168,739 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to explore the soil bacteria in soybean and corn fields. Beyond the research, the grant will foster partnerships within the Richmond community, specifically between Earlham College and IU East.

Richmond, Ind. — Indiana University East awarded five scholarships for the 2011 Summer Research Scholar Program. Undergraduate students receive $2,000 to conduct a research project under the supervision of a faculty mentor.

Humanities and Social Sciences faculty receive funding for research
Wazir Mohamed
, assistant professor of sociology, received an award from Indiana University’s Summer Faculty Research Support Fund to facilitate the completion of field research for a book in progress, Sugar, Land, and Marginalization: Guyana and the World Economy, 1838-2010, to be completed by December 2011.
