The Indiana University East Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team won a regional championship in its league during the SIFE United States Regional Competition Exposition held April 10 in Cincinnati.

IU East students on the team are James Healton and Shawna Sparks, both of Centerville, Ind., Ryan Doughty of Richmond, Nick Miller of Winchester, Brittany Hostetler of Camden, Ohio, and Rick McKinney and Megan Winn, both of Eaton, Ohio.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) at Indiana University East recently received a Sam’s Club Step Up for Small Business grant that will help students work with businesses in the Richmond Depot District and Center City Development Corporation to produce YouTube videos. The team was one of 50 recipients nationwide for the $1,500 Sam’s Club award.

Brittany Hostetler and Rick McKinney have been selected by Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) USA to attend the 2012 Partner Summit in New York City February 7-10. They are two of 30 students invited to meet with President and CEO of Sam’s Club Brian Cornell and President and CEO of Walmart International Doug McMillon in the Time-Life Building.

Rick McKinney of Eaton, Ohio, received a Jules and Gwen Knapp Ambassador Scholarship from Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) USA. The national scholarship recognizes the leadership, teamwork and communication skills developed in SIFE students.

The Indiana University East Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team won first place in its league during the SIFE United States Regional Competition Exposition held April 8 in Chicago.

IU East students on the team are James Healton of Centerville, Ind., Morgan Imhoff of Richmond, Ind., Cathleen Loy of Lewisburg, Ohio, Chelsy Ozbun of Lynn, Ind., and Blake Pieratt of Eaton, Ohio. Tim Scales, lecturer of business and director of the Center for Entrepreneurship, is the team’s advisor. The team has been working throughout the year on various projects related to teaching financial literacy concepts in the community.

The Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) organization at Indiana University East have developed a “Build-A-Rock” program on entrepreneurship and established a curriculum for high school educators. SIFE has taken the program into classrooms locally and nationwide, teaching young students about entrepreneurship. The organization plans to further the program by taking it internationally to classrooms around the globe.
