The Lingle Scholar award was established by Paul and Pat Lingle in October 2005 in order to keep the best and brightest youth in Wayne County. The scholarship is given to an incoming freshman student who has also been accepted to the IU East Honors Program. Applicants must undergo an interview process with the Honors Program committee as well as with the Lingles. Recipients receive a $2,000 annual scholarship over four years. Scholars are also congratulated by having their names added to the Lingle Scholars plaque.
